Not a good thread! antm asked for opinions. Everyone has different opinions. If I were skippy I would have taken offence to what was said.
I would love to say I won't need credit again. I never intend to go down the credit card route again if I can help it. However, living in a vilage with no public transport and being disabled, I appreciate if I didn't have the benefit of a motability car that is a year old, I would need to ensure I had a car that was reliable and comfortable. We don't all have the time to save for a car if our previous one expires.
We'll just all have to agree that some people would take credit and others wouldn't.
I am assuming the irony of all the usual posters saying how they struggle to buy food for the month suddenly have no issue spending 10k on a new car it's highly illogical from a financial stance point of view. The argument some people NEED a car has been met but noone NEEDS to spend 10k on one and if you do and get in trouble you WOULD be kicking yourself especially after working so hard to get out of it once
My initial reply including skippy was meant to be constructive not offensive. If it was perceived that was I apologise same as I found her reply to be to be offensive.
I think we are going around in circles now so as foggy has said some will and some won't use credit and ones who do will vary on whether they go for what they NEED or what they would LIKE.
I love my cars, always have done. Would never say that I wouldn't take car credit again. I would rather have credit for a decent car than have to shell out for repairs.

Well - I'll step out of the discussion then shall I? I think I would NEED (using your capital emphasis) to spend about that on a comfortable and reliable motor.
If you haven't experienced health probs then I wouldn't expect you to understand, if you have, then I apologise. And hey, some do struggle to find money for food each month but they wouldn't have the IVA money to find then would they?
Having had old bangers for 10 years plus, I know how stressful it is to have a car that doesn't work, or will cost a fortune to repair. Also I would just like to make the point that not everybody is in debt for over spending on things that are not essential. And that is not a judgement on somebody who has run up debts that way. Some have overspent yes, for whatever reason and that's their business and nobody elses. But some have also had personal tragedy, illness and relationship breakups. We are all a mixed bag as this thread truly shows! Hooray for variety and interesting debate as long as it is not person specific.

If i make the point that it is sometimes more cost effective to have a newer car on finance inside or outside of an IVA then that is my view and has come from personal experience. [remember I have been through an IVA !!] An IVA is a rehabilitation process and once you are out, as others will agree, you are more than capable of taking on sensible finance and a car is a must for many.
