Happy new year to everyone.

I just thought i would drop a line this month is were i have now been in an IVA for 1 year, thats right started with 60 months and 48 months left, in another 18 months i will be half way.

Its felt great, this is the first 12 months i have not had to worry debt, robbing pete to pay paul, everything paid in cash no credit.

I can honestly say i will never get credit again and even when my IVA is finished i think i will keep with the basic account.

When i read the items of forumn i can see people who are worried about entering an IVA, dont be it will be the best thing you have done, put money worries behind you. For me this last 12 months has been brilliant about not worrying about debts. Dont get me wrong i have found it hard at times, like now i dont get paid for another 2 weeks and i have £21.50 to last till then, so what i just wont go out any were all bills are paid and just enough food in the freezer.

I would rather struggle for 2 weeks on £21.50 than have the stress of been in debt or having to live of credit cards.

I now go by the prrinciple if i cant afford it i dont buy it, or if i dont really need it then i dont buy it.

I tell you what was a good feeling, everything i paid for over christmas was with cash, and it felt great to notice that so many people were using credit cards all i could think was, at least i wont have any credit card bills in January -ever again.

Regards

no matter how bad money gets, theirs stll alot more important things in life

james.c I can relate to how you're feeling, although not in an iva at present (currently in process of proposal being sorted) I have been living as though I am in one if that makes sense? My initial fears were immense and the what if's were many but I found a good IP in Melanie and hopefully it will be accepted as soon as.

Mind, everything that can go wrong is going wrong, boiler now broke!!! Luckily husband works with all different tradesmen so hopefully can get someone to do it cheap?? who knows? dishwasher broke can live without that and have been doing so, dehumidifier broke! live in an old Victorian place that could do with one really as the damp proof course isn't the best in the world! Never mind I am so desperate to get out of debt and change my lifestyle I'll take whatever it throws at me so long as my daughter doesn't suffer and so far she hasn't. I can honestly say I will never ever get into debt again and will live within my means, basic bank accounts are good and so far so good with using it. My New Years Resolution is to save a £1.00 @ day for maybe a break in the summer (Sun offer?) or to let my daughter have a spending spree in Primark at some point, she's 14 and it's a fab shop for a fashion conscious 14 yr old! I will try and save the £1.00 @ day from the loose change in purse or by walking that little bit further to get the offer to save money! Here's to everyone for a debt free future and as james.c what a great feeling not to have credit.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Hi
Thanks James,it's always refreshing to hear good news and remind ourselves just what a wonderful tool the IVA is when used under the correct circumstances and made affordable.

Hey Isthereanend, at least your leccy bill should be coming down!!... Soz, I know it's no fun when the appliances start failing, but I know you'll find a way, we all do with these 'challenges' life throws at us....

and James, thanks for your post, inspiring, and I'd agree, being a year further in that it is great to be out of the debt cycle and keep cheery by thinking about that final payment and life thereafter.... every now and then someone posts on here who's just completed and it make me feel great reading those....

Here's to success for everyone in the coming year and many more succesfully completed IVA's!!!

Martin

Have you tried using freecycle to get an oven ? There are always lots of old bits and pieces on there that people give away for nothing. I have had the same problem with stuff breaking lately - it always seems to happen around Xmas when you are broke

That's great news, good to see it's all going well. Hopefully we'll feel the same in 12 months time [:D]

I just like to say yes I absolutely agree with everything James has said. The difference this Xmas was for me, first Xmas in IVA with no dreaded CC bills looming. When i think of the stress and panic attacks especially after the last few years Xmas when I got those horrible CC statements showing what I had spent (and they were disgusting!!). Now I have budgeted with what i can only spend knowing it's my money I am spending and not the banks with their disgusting high interest rates!!
