I rented throughout the IVA and moved. Like you say they will do credit checks. However, I just told them upfront what they would find. Never had a problem.

I must add that one agency wanted six months rent in advance....which just meant I didn't bother with them. An other agent asked for two months rent in advance which I did. Once I had been in the house a couple of years and moved the next landlord was just happy for the one month in advance. Hope this makes sense!

I have had many clients move from rental property to rental property with little difficulty during the term of their IVA - and I gather that honesty is usually the best policy when it comes to seeking new accommodation - especially if sought via a letting agent.

Hi Marc,

Moving home whilst in an IVA should not be a problem, however, you would need to consider any increased rental costs and the affect this will have on your ability to maintain your IVA payments.

Your income and expenditure would need to be reviewed by your IVA company once you move and your IVA payments may need to change (this could be an increase or a decrease to your IVA payments). However, if your disposable income reduces significantly, your IVA may no longer be viable.

The best option would be to speak with the IVA company before you move and give them an indication of your new costs, they will then be able to advise you if it will cause a problem or not.

Kind regards.

Being almost at the end (see 'My story' post) of my IVA, I'm hoping to sell and move into rented in the next few months. If you're upfront about your situation and can show you can make the payments you'll find a landlord with a bit of sense.

To be uncharitable, an empty property makes them no profit!

I had to move to a rented property during my IVA and I had my son act as a guarantor for me,he offered, that just made me feel a bit better and the rental agreement went through without any problems
last payment made August 2013,Completion Certificate received 12 November 2014
