I do not see how the two are connected. Are you sure it is the IVA that is the problem or have there been claims against you in the past?

I'm in an IVA and had no trouble getting public liability insurance. My daughter is disabled and it's respite care so the time with her carer is not paid by me. However, no one asked if I was in an IVA and I paid the company by debit card over the phone and sent the documents. I hope this helps.
IVA started Sept 09. Glad to be on the way to being debt free

Yes the two are certainly connected - I've been told by at least two brokers that as somebody undertaking an IVA you are more likely to commit fraud!!

Actually funny you should say that - I saw your post and as a result of that tried simply business and was refused inspite of the fact I have been insured with them for the past year. I would reccomend you double check your policy as they told me that they do not insure individuals undertaking IVA - no exceptions!

Please do check this as if you don't declare it your policy could be invalid - i only became aware of it when I read the terms and conditions

ive checked my documents all it asked for was if i had ever been made bankrupt, absolutely nothing about ivas's,maybe they have changed their terms since january but legally im not breaking the terms because the question on iva was never asked.

Thats great news - i'm really pleased as it would be a nightmare if you needed to make a claim & found out that your policy was invalid!

Under public liability insurance you can never make a claim against yourself. It is to protect you from claims from others so I cannot see any connection even if you were a convicted fraudster. It seems bizarre.

I totally agree with you there is no logic in there decision
I am a locksmith and as such insure my tools against theft (they are left in my van over night). I can only therefore assume that they were of the belief that perhaps I would falsely claim my tools had been stolen. – However what ever the reason Simply Business were not the only company to say that "it is their policy not to insure any individual who is either bankrupt or undertaking an iva" – I think in total I called around 10 different companies who all said the same thing.

I have finally managed to get insurance with the AA – whom it has to be said were fantastic & highly recommended. It’s just a shame that there are not more companies out there willing to look at you as an individual as apposed to assume that because you are undertaking an iva (and dealing with your debts) you are likely to be dodgy!

I have found myself in the same position today, having had PLI with simply buisness for the past 12months as I renewed today I have been refused. I am now left with no option other than to close my buisness as I can not carry out my work with no PLI. I do not know what to do or who to turn to. I have spent the past 5 hrs ringing and filling on line quotes to insurers. I called Towergate as I had seen here that they might help but agian they would not insure my proffesion due to the IVA, can anyone please help me out, I am desperate. Thanks!
