I have my bankruptcy court date next week and after giving back my home to Northern Rock, moving into rented accommodation and settling in, I am worried at this moment in time that I have not paid any of my debtors for six months now, whilst I have been sorting all my life out and making these decisions. I have not even paid the secured loan on the property.

I am not better off at the moment because of the move and the deposit and the monies for the bankruptcy, however my question is will the OR want to know why I haven't been making the payments since I gave up my home. I am still finding it difficult to manage at the moment, there are two of us to be made bankrupt my husband and myself and trying to get that money together with Christmas in between has not been easy. Very nervous at the moment but I know we have made the right decision.

I hope I have done things right by moving into rented accommodation and giving up my home. Northern Rock have put it on the market already, they only want the amount I owe them for it. Nothing left over for the second charge.

Hi pauline and welcome to the forum

If you have booked an appointment at Court for a bankruptcy application, there is no problem that you have not paid creditors for a while - in fact it probably makes your application more credible. The OR will understand that you have not been able to pay your creditors due to financial difficulties and your relocation. Things must feel very difficult at the moment, but I am sure that you will feel much better when the bankruptcy is done and dusted and you can look forward to a debt free future.

Just to confirm that the OR will be the first to recognise that you can't get blood out of a stone. Unless you have done something silly, like taking on a load of new credit during that very difficult period, in the knowledge that you would never be able to repay it, the OR will most likely fully understand your situation.
