ADMIRAL HOME INSURANCE WARNING! I have just had my annual renewal for my house insurance who was with BDML who has been taken over by Admiral. They said they had to go over a few things to do the renewal and ask a few questions. All the usual stuff the asked had I ever been refused insurance, been declared bankrupt or been in an IVA. Of course I had to say yes I'm over 2yrs into IVA. To which their response was well Im sorry we cant insure you at this time!! I am fuming. It's only a £9 p/mth policy and Ive never missed a payment! She said it was a new question and when I informed her I wouldn't be ringing them for a car insurance quote in June she informed me 'Oh we don't ask the IVA question for car insurance'. Anyway rant over and just wanted to know has anyone else been turned down for home insurance (contents) for such a small amount and can anyone reccommend another company please :(

Go to moneysupermarket.com

You might be fuming now and may find you can get your insurance cheaper from someone else without the grief.

If you can, who's the idiot now, not you , but your muppet previous insurer.

I've just renewed and went via Policy Expert with no problems.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

The OP is still in the IVA though Lesley.

I can only assume the insurance industry now consider people in IVAs as higher risk

I've been with Policy expert for two years, shopped around this year and couldn't find cheaper. I've not missed a payment yet despite my IVA being completed. Made the last payment on the 28th January so IVA still showing on credit files etc.,

Thanks everyone for your replies I will look into your suggestions. I also told Admiral I would be posting on here a national forum and letting eveyone know of their refusal.

We're with More Than and we weren't asked about BR or an IVA.

We are with Swinton now but been with Directline before. The only trouble I had was with LV who didn't mention anything about the IVA but said they could't offer me anything because of a poor credit history. Swinton are great though.
I get knocked down, but I get up again. They ain't never gonna keep me down.

An interesting subject I have just had my Home Renewal Insurance and have checked this for the first time as like others have not been aware of this, I have found in the "Statement of Fact" It says "You have not told us about any CCJs within the previous 20 years, "You have not told us about any Bankruptcy within the previous 20 years, Please advise us about any facts in the statement of Facts which are wrong and could result in claims made under this policy as invalid.

The post office have just renewed our home insurance for the 3rd year or so, never had a problem with them. They asked the bankrupt/IVA question on my initial proposal but stated that it will not affect my policy or renewal. The premiums are well within what we had been quoted by other insurers so they haven't hiked up any prices either.
Last Payment made 04/12/14. Completion Certificate 25/7/15. IVA company GT. No Issues
