I applied for a Vanquis credit card today online (as a credit builder)will be paid in full each month, completed my iva June 10, I thought I would of recd an instant decision, the reply was they will contact me in 10-14 days, is this common practise? does it mean ive not been refused or accepted but referred? I also checked my credit score today and it came back fair which was a bonus much higher than I expected. The thought of credit again makes me tremble but I want to start building for the future.

Hi Phil,

Sorry, I've no experience of Vanquis but I do know their acceptance level is a bit hit and miss, some people get one, others don't.

Hopefully anyone on here who has a card will be on to let you know.

I regularly get e-mails - almost daily - from what I assume are "introducing" companies inviting me to apply for this and other credit- building cards. It is bizarre as I still have a year left of my IVA and would not dream of applying. Presumably - if I did apply - the application would be immediately declined - one would hope!!!!

Good Luck with your application Phil - and well done for successfully completing your IVA. I am jealous!!!!

I've just had an application form come through from Vanquis and me and hubby both had them from Santander at the weekend - for their normal credit card! They went in the recycling today.

That's interesting kallis. The ones I get are always clearly targeted at people with bad credit records - which makes me wonder where they get my details from. The only conclusion I can reach is that it must be the Insolvency Register - as how else would these companies pick me? Or is it just random selection? I also receive numerous messages inviting applications for Payday loans - very strange.

I get those all of the time, usually in my spam folder and I just delete them.

Don't know if we got the Santander ones as we applied for, and were given, a full bank account last year but closed it immediately as they messed us about and I wasn't happy with their customer services.

Hi
You will be fine with Vanquis, they were my first card post IVA and offer an excellent customer service. I think nearly all applications are referred and you will receive a call to confirm details. The fact that it was referred in my opinion means that you will be offered a card.
Yes they have a very high APR, but it is understandable as they are taking a risk. They have been voted CC company of the year for the last two years I think.
If you pay the balance of each month it doesn't matter how high the APR is

Andam Davies

I was refused a Vanquis card. Instead i got a master card they pay £60 on to and immidiately take back off and i pay it back to them at £5 a month. I know basically im paying NOTHING back because i didnt borrow anything but its a starting point. It is just a pre paid credit card which suits me fine :)

I applied for Vanquis and was also told it would be referred ...got a call about 48 hours later and was approved....I asked for an associate card for hubby and was told he needed to apply himself...he did and was refused outright...weird !!
I was given 500.00 limit and I use it for fuel and pay off each month...within 3 months limit was upped to 900.00 and now...10 mths on...I have a limit of 1750.00

Crazy isnt it....the banks and CC are still shoving money at us despite our history.......but we are still paying off each month and have no intention of using it and dont even feel tempted....and the sole reason is to improve our credit score for the future....

You should not be denied credit MTL just because you have had difficulties in the past. You know that you will not let it get back to the bad old days, and credit limits used wisely are beneficial to ongoing budgeting rather than detrimental.

Hi
I had a phone call this morning from Vanquis who approved my application, all very quick and the guy I spoke to was very polite and friendly Andy D was right, as from today I can start re-building my credit score and profile and look forward to a brighter future, I couldnt of done it without the help of the professionals and fellow posters from this superb site. A really huge thankyou.

MToL - you can always ask them to reduce your limit if you are not happy with them increasing it - with Vanquis isnt the maxium limit £2000.00 anyway.

I've now got a limit of £2250 with Vanquis, but as the others ginger says you can always ask them to reduce it.
