I am currently going through the process of an IVA and am feeling anxious and scared that it won't be approved and it will go even more pear shaped than it already is!! I feel stupid and guilty for getting over 50k in debt and don't know what the hell I will do if it doesn't get approved. I spoke to the company yesterday to tell them I was away in December as my sister moved abroad last year and has paid for our flights to go and see her and the girl I was speaking to had a tone to her voice that just told me she was thinking 'oh well you are going through this with all this debt and your going on holiday!' That just made me feel worse!!

Hi Skintagain
Firstly, you have no reason to feel guilty or stupid for getting into debt. It is something that happens, more often then not without you realising it. The fact that you are facing up to it and seeking help says alot.
As for the tone of the person speaking to you, that is unacceptable and try not to take any notice.

Thanks

Hi Skintagain

The debt is nothing to feel ashamed about, at lest you are doing something about it and not burying your head in the sand.

Just like Becca, i have my creditors meeting soon - 3rd Dec and everyone on here is so supportive, friendly and helpful - at the end of the day we're all in the same boat!

As for your holiday, go and enjoy yourselves and don't think about your money worries until you return home.

I too have been spoke to like a piece of s*** by some creditors, but at the end of the day these just get commission on trying to get skint folk like us to cough up!

Will keep everything crossed for you and good luck xx

Good luck with everything. You are on the road to more positive things and getting your life on track! You should not be judged at all, especially as you are not paying for the flights.

Enjoy, have a relaxing time and hopefully things will start to improve for you all round!

Thank you all for your kind words of support, I am so glad I have found this site!! What a great source of support!
When I first spoke to someone at Norton Finance and he recommended the IVA he said I can get your payments down to £250 a mth and this will be for 5 yrs and now this has been passed onto the IVA team they are telling me it is now £355 per month and the first £250 I paid was just an admin fee!! Is this company legit? They are called Ashley Park which is part of Norton Finance. Would I be better dealing with someone like the CCCS?
OMG my head is battered, I can't concentrate at work it's affecting my sleep(lack of it) Am I doing the right thing with the right company?Advice?

I had this 7/8 coys - complete waste of my time. Give Melanie Giles a ring - she is totally realistic and a first rate IP - got me sorted very quickly and it was a complicated one; you will not go wrong with Melanie.

Hi
All options should have been fully explained to you only after going through a full fact find and I get the impression that this was not done
You need to speak to two or three experts/companies and get correct advice

My husband and I are in a similar situation...

He's looking into an IVA and this site has been a life and sanity saver...

All I can say is talk to a few companies... My suggestions would be Michael Peoples, Andy Davie and Melanie Giles - all on this forum. They've all been wonderful and really helpful and explained exactly what we needed to do, what we needed to consider and didn't once make us feel guilty or stupid.

We weren't so impressed with CCCS - they were hard to get hold of (phone lines constantly busy and every time my husband spoke to somebody different and often their advice was slightly different...) and he was almost two weeks waiting for a formal phone interview with them and during that interview the monthly payment they'd suggested rose from £430 to £520 and they wanted me to go in for an IVA too, even though I'm actually solvent and managing to pay off my debts and credit cards as well as most of our joint expenses so it just seems daft for us both to apply...

At that time we didn't know anything about the whole process and CCCS had been recommended by my husband's bank... We didn't realise it was ok to 'shop around' and take a bit of time to weigh everything up. Fortunately, logging on to this site made us more aware of all the options.

It is ok... you're going to be working on your debt with these people for 5, probably 6 years so it's important you feel comfortable and at ease and like the person you've chosen is working on your behalf and in your best interests and not the creditors... That's what I've learnt over the past few weeks.... This forum has been great for making us realise we're not alone. Do shop around and pick someone you feel comfortable with.

Hope that helps a little.

Hi skintagain, we are in the process of arranging an iva with melanie giles and her team, we are awaiting our proposal at the moment and from the first phone conversation with them they have been superb, very proffesional and non judgemental with no up front fees, give them a call, you wont regret it in my opinion.

Thank you all for your words of advice I spoke to Andy Davie this afternoon and he cleared my head a bit and I got back onto EDS and had a good long chat with them and have decided to stick with them. I think I was having a particularly bad day as it's the anniversary of my dad dying and was in a bit of a tizzy, he would be the one I would have turned to and asked for help and reassurance. I feel like a frightened rabbit in the headlights but you know what I can do this I am sure
