Hello just a quick question I am considering iva but the only thing that stops me is that will the insolvency practitioner be judgemental ?when I applied for credit cards I didn't put down my income correctly I thought i would most likely to get it if I increase the amount I know I was stupid shouldn't have done it,I'm in major debt but really scared of approaching an iva company.help me please
Hi there and welcome to this friendly non-judgmental forum.
Please don't be nervous of approaching a potential IP. My only advice would be to contact 2 or 3 t discuss all your options and gain some non-judgmental case specific advice.
Honestly they won't bite, I've been through an IVA and lots of posters on the forum are all at varying stages. We have professionals who post in their capacity as IP's too.
You've made a major step in acknowledging you have a debt problem and also by joining us on here.
Good luck and do let us know how you get on. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
I was like you - worried what they would think, how could I have got into this mess. But they weren't judgemental at all. My only advice is to make sure you have all the facts and figures and tell them truthfully what you owe, what you earn and what you spend. My only regret was that I didn't do it earlier and save a year of worry.
Do not be scared of seeking advice, nobody will be judgmental, we see lots of debt problems and not once have i spoken to someone who took out credit with the intention of not paying it back.
Please seek advice you will feel much better when you know there is a solution

Hi Libby. As others have said, you won't be judged.
Do speak to more than one firm ( it get's easier after that first call) as you need to find a company you feel ay ease with and they do all operate slightly differently, albeit within similar guidelines.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014
It is certainly not a blame game and no one will judge. There are thousands of IVAs every month so there is nothing you will say that has not been said and done numerous times before. Ring an IP firm for some free advice and put your mind at ease.
I certainly had the same thoughts and feelings when I started my journey. But the IP and her team I went with was and always has been nothing but 100% helpful
Talk to 2 or 3 IP's as has already been suggested. You will be dealing with them for potentially 6 years, so you have to feel comfortable with them. But my number 1 piece of advice is be 100% brutally honest with yourself and the IP. It IS a frightening prospect, but at the risk of sounding cheesy, it really is liberating
You have taken the hardest step in admitting you have a problem, so WELL DONE to you for that. It may not sound like it, but it does get easier over time. There is a tiny light showing at the end of the tunnel now, and it only gets brighter every day
There are 10 kinds of people that understand binary, those that do and those that don't
I was felling the same, before my 1st phone call. my iva ended a year ago and it was the best thing I did.pick up the phone and talk to a few company's.
IVA now over with and it was worth it.
now starting my life again,
I felt this way too but I spoke to more than one IP and there wasn't even a hint of being judged by anyone but there WAS a feeling that here is someone that understands why we get into a mess and that there is something that can be done about it. It was the best thing me and Mr Ivamess ever did, and now although we are just starting out, the sense of relief is wonderful.
As an insolvency practitioner in practice, can I assure you Libby that no-one will make any judgements as to how you have got yourself into your current situation. That is neither our role or remit. Instead your IP will want to be supportive and help you to find the best solution possible to enable you to repay your debts, being mindful of what you wish the end outcome to be.
Try a couple of IP firms and find out for yourself - you really have nothing to lose.
I echo what everybody else has said. Be brave and pick up the phone to 2 or 3 companies. Nobody will be judgmental they want to help you find a solution. And there is one for you. Good luck.
