You will have your name on the insolvency register so chek this out before you proceed. My husband could not take up his local govern£ent post due to this until he was off the register .an expert should answer soon

The answer is yes but your regulators must be advised. If you work as a sole practitioner there is a possibility that you may be required to work with someone else but if you work in a practice it is more straightforward.
The Law Society or SRA will look at each case and it is treated on its merits. Many solicitors are currently in IVAs and the trend is rising.

One of our IP's/Experts who post will be along later to confirm I'm sure, but always best to check with any employer/governing body even if it's an anonymous phone call to check. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
Hi Carol - if I were you I would give the Solicitors Regulation Authority a call and discuss it with them. They have a professional ethics helpline - details are on their website. There is not definitive asnwer to this. The bottom line is yes your registration can be affected but in what way is the question. Solicitors can still practise and be in an IVA but it can also depend on the firm they work in. The SRA could impose certain conditions on you in what you can and can't do for a period of time. You should also check your employment contract if you are currently with a firm to see what their internal policy is.
Do not let it put you off exploring an IVA as you have nothing to lose by doing that as long as you are clear on what the implications will be, if any in your case.
