Melanie, you may remember you cautious words of HSBC closing accounts and I should be aware of that where I just opened a basic account for contingencies... well no contingencies to add to it so far, just £20 sat there, but as it remains a few pounds in credit it has still not been rejected by their office even knowing about the IVA, so... so far so good... It was opened in April.

Hi Dots

I'm the same. I have a RSBC and Bank of Scotland account ... neither were direct creditors of mine but they were connected with some of my creditors. They seem to be functioning normally, I have tested the water with a few small sums of money ... but I don't yet have the courage to put anything of too much value in there!

I know what you mean... but it was just when I announced that I had opened an HSBC account earlier in this year, Melanie advised me to be aware that HSBC close IVA clients and my account might get thrown back out by HSBC office... but... so far so good... I just thought to mention that point so for the record.

We opened a first direct account last July, our IVA was accepted in September 2008 and all was well to start off with, with First Direct - on December 14th they wrote to us and confirmed we had 28 days to move accounts as our account was being closed due to entering into IVA. We had and have still not been over drawn in all that time, not even by a penny but their policy is to close down all IVA and Bankruptcy people's accounts irrelevant as to how well they have been operated!

First direct and HSBC are linked and many on this forum have been asked to close accounts after starting an IVA. I remember this happening when I first started posting almost two years ago.

No news is good news Gordon on the HSBC front. I think that more closures came from the First Direct area than directly from HSBC.

First Direct closed our account with very little notice because of the IVA although we had had the account since the start of our IVA!!
As I have said on other postings HSBC were the only bank to accept us and I showed them all the paperwork for the IVA. That was in January and so far so good.

Keeping everything crossed

Very interesting to keep these matters in mind... awareness is always the upper hand. I will naturally keep posted if any changes occur, but have no funds to add or subtract to show I am fully alive yet anyway.

Just to update this... Nearly a year on and the account is still live and kicking... Although, I have not been able to put anything more than the £20 since opened it, but HSBC is still friendly!

Hi All

We were with HSBC but they closed our account a month or so back because I was a few pence short of having money for a DD and money went into the account the following day. The problem was due to my gas and electricity bill increasing by more than double have now changed suppliers. Have changed to Think Banking and although there have been a few problems have always been very polite and helpful also means that I have a debit card which I didn't have HSBC.

Jan

PS I know people did warn me about HSBC but while everything went well they were fine.

You are one of the lucky one Dots.

HSBC were fine with us (we'd banked with them for over 20 years) until our finances started going pearshaped and then they didn't want to know!

I'd rather keep my money under the mattress than bank with HSBC! They have no ethics whatsoever, and only want people with a lot of money. Grrrrr!

mmmm... seems HSBC ok with me, but then again, they did open the account for me in full knowledge I was over 4 years into an arrangement... As I say, I only put £20 in there, but have had no dealings from them since... the money is still there and maybe once all this matter is all over, it will be interesting to see what relationship they try and build...

It is convenient for me as was the only local high street bank I could approach as my main dealings are from a bank that is internet only, so will just see what what ethic ethics they ethically ethicasize... lol

I'm with you there Skippy! After the way they treated us, if they were the last bank in the world I wouldn't touch them.

They were really awkward when my uncle was diagnosed with terminal cancer - he was trying to get his affairs in order, but they made it really difficult for him, even though he didn't owe them a penny and wanted to make things as straight forward for his wife as possible. In the end they transferred their account to Nationwide.
