I thought about using hubbies for haircut then thought again and my determination of ensuring all the kids get xmas presents this year of the same value got the better of me..however I now look in the mirror and see a mop of hair hat desparately needs a cut!!!!

Never mind - if things get deparate hubbies clippers might have to be used !

My grey hairs and dark roots are much more important than Christmas presents!

I haven't got any nieces or nephews, but my friends have all got kids and I've decided that I'm spending a fiver on each one this year - it was alright when there was only 1, but now there's a few of them it's too expensive.

I gave up on friends kids last year, apart from one of our closest friends who are almost family - but a fiver it is for them !

Hubbie and I exchange cards and a £10 present, and parents get £10 each - that's all - xmas can be done for less than £150 for us ! Once upon a time it would have been £500 minimum!!!!!

I only buy for friend's kids as I don't have any children in the family. Dave will give money to his grandchildren, but how much is down to him, I don't get involved.

I get more satisfaction from spending less at Christmas than when I used to stick it on a credit card and worry about it.

Being self employed I'm not sure if I get the refund, but I did get called in by my accountant today to sign my end of year accounts and was informed that I am due £149.70 back from the tax man ... isn't it great when they owe you money!!

It amazes me how excited I get when I am able to cut a few corners, still provide presents for people but remain in credit !

I think I got mine last week ( not had my wage slip yet, but there was some extra) and spent it while we were on holiday, I did buy a couple of chrissie presents though so it did sort of go on something useful. I am starting early as I did last year and getting a couple here and there and hopefully will be done. I too like skippy think it so much more enjoyable to pay for them myself and not worry about the bills after christmas as we used to, I found I put more thought into the presents as well as I was limited on the amount able to spend.

I don't think it's classed as overpaid tax as such. It's Gordon Browns little gift for having taken it off us in the first place.
