I thought that this would happen to me when I rang to cancel my Sky subscription when I was starting the IVA process. I was paying the full £43.50 and expected to get offered a reduced subscription, but they just accepted my cancellation it without argument! To be honest, we've not really missed it, but with the footie season starting this weekend we make think differently! Anyway, I can't justify or afford it now, so I'm sure I'll get over it. Match of the Day can't be that bad, can it?
Yes, it's typical you here stories of friends/colleagues getting offers and then when you try it, they snatch your hand off.

I once read, and I'm pretty sure it was on Martin's Money Tips,an article about how to do exactly what you tried to and succeed, or at least stand more chance.

It was written by an employee of Sky TV with inside information [;)], who said that there are certain days of the week that the Sales team are allowed to 'offer' the reduced prices, sorry, I can't precisley remember which days, but I'm sure it will be easy to find on Moneysupermaket.com. More to the point, the rest of the week you don't have a hope of bartering with them.

It was basically a little "How To" guide for getting the cost of your Sky down, so it could be that you phoned on one of the 'non-offer' days, as daft as it sounds.

I havent tried it, I'm not much of a gambler and they may snatch my hand off too - that would take some explaining to my hubby [:0], I only managed it with AOL, because we were serious about moving at the time.

So anyone considering cancelling to hopefully make a saving, it might be worth at least trying the method given on Moneysupermaket, but please don't come back and shout at me if they disconnect you[:(].

If I find the link, I'll post it up (I assume I'm OK to put links up, I'm new here?)

I am always knocking my virgin media down i just find out what other people are getting and if they get a better deal; I ring them up and ask for it. Quite often you see offers for new customers and they are better than you get so i ring and tell them they have had enough money off me and that I should be entitled to the same, it does quite often have good effect. Another thing to check with these is do you really need all the channels that you have I found that some I was paying for in my deal I didnt watch and dropped down and saved £10 and havent even noticed anything gone.

This is the article I was talking about, it's actually Money Saving Expert, not Money Supermarket.

Good luck.
