We had a George Foreman and got rid of it - the normal grill works just as well.

Our slow cooker just takes up space as I'm not keen on meat cooked in it, and I hardly eat meat now so it would be a waste of time using it.

In the winter we (actually husband as I don't know how to even spell cook"!) use our slow cooker all the time. But this year we invested in an Intellichef and this is absolutely marvellous.

I appreciate for those of you in IVAs this may be beyond the CCCS allowance, but put one on your list of things to buy when the IVAs are over as they are absolutely fantastic. Rice and pasta are cooked to a perfection - the thing knows when to stop cooking when they are done. A fantastic and versatile piece of equipment if ever I saw one, and for working mums a godsend as tea can be ready for when you get home.

That does sound wonderful Mel.

I have to have a George as yes another piece of broken equipment in my house is the grill of the cooker and one of the ovens (not let's hope I've not spooked the other one to do the dreaded or I'm without an oven too).

When my IVA is finished I need to replace so much. There really won't be anything left in this house soon that does work. x

Having said the above, I don't want it to put other posters off finding out about an IVA as it may be the ideal solution for you. I've had such bad luck it's unreal and I've always come out the other side and made do with what I've got or a cheap alternative.

Got the boiler man coming this week and the roofing man so that'll be two things fixed, hopefully.

I love my hubby being at home, as he has been for the past 16 years. The housework is done, the cooking is done, so apart from washing and ironing (which I insist on doing) I can pretty much relax when I get home from work.

I hope your boiler and roof get sorted out this week Lesley.

That is another good reason within an IVA to choose a good and contactable IP as I'm using a partial payment break to fund these things. xx

Just had my first slow cooker meal of the autumn, chicken chasseur (Yes I shamelessly knicked the recipe from Luke![:D])it was wonderful and enough over for my tea tomorrow.

We have a George, hubby doesn't like the taste of the food from it though, he says a lot of the flavour is in the juices / fat take that away and you are left with very dry tasteless meat. So it is shoved in a cupboard collecting dust.

Too true Lesley! Fortunately we haven't had to do anything so far but I can understand how difficult it can be.

Pandy - that sounds lovely. We've just had lamb steaks with roasties, leeks and peas. Lovely!

We don't eat a lot of meat now, mainly fish - I've got sea bass tonight. I'm off lamb at the moment after reading that most lamb sold in the UK is halal (yes I know I eat curry, but I won't buy it from a supermarket), and unfortunately our local butcher is too expensive.

Lesley, I hope the boiler is sorted out for you.

Mel, the Intellichef wouldn't be any good for me - I've had a look and it doesn't have a cremate function! I like all my food overdone!

We eat a fair amount of meat and my lamb is killed on the premises and it ain't halal! I won't knowingly eat anything killed thatay.

Skip - a girl after my own heart! Mine has to be cremated as well!

It does a lovely roast beef joint with rosemary and lemon. Sounds disgusting, but the flavour and taste are amazing.

Doesn't appeal to me I have to say. I like rosemary with lamb. Beef has to be cooked as normal and then served with loads of Colemans mustard!
