Thanks Pandy, I have frozen cauli before without blanching and it seems ok. I did do mash too as I'd seen it on net, i make it as normal with milk and marge, then when it is defrosted I add a bit of milk to soften it up.

will try the veg one. I freeze a lot of herbs fresh and use them in cooking. I take all the stalks out and then put in a sandwich bag with air in it. Once its frozen I undo the bag and scrunch it up and it then breaks up ready to use. Its like tearing it and not cutting it...as jamie oliver says LOL

I never knew about freezing veg and it's a great idea. There's only one of me so if I buy a bag of runner beans or a cauliflower I end up eating them all week! I will defo be investing in a slow cooker and freezing mash for the winter...I can almost taste my chicken stew being mopped up by mashed potato now!!

I do like a drink when I get in from work and a G&T is sooo much cheaper than a glass of wine! Less fattening too.

for the mash I ended up working out how many spoonfuls it took to put on the three plates, then frozes spoonful portions on a baking tray. then put the number of portions needed for one full meal into a bag. Instead of making up mash specially just prepare and cook double the amount when you make tea normally. I believe jacket potatoes can be frozen the same way but I've not done that yet.

I look up everything on google for thigns like this, but veg is something I just never did. Am going to try growing my own potatoes next year in carrier bags !!!!

I'm useless in a supermarket and always over spend ... so now I use the Asda website but DON'T actually get it delivered to save the delivery charge!!!

How it works is... I do my weekly shop as if I would be ordering it ... then it lets you click on "full trolley view" and you can scroll down to see what you've put in ... then I go through it and carefully take out any stuff I don't actually need...taking into account meals for week etc ... then at top it says how much your shopping comes to so you know what you're spending.

... after that I print off the shopping list (might have to copy and paste it into Word if needs be) and then i take my list to the shop and stick to it religiously!

I've found I can easily shave £20 per week off the shopping this way and it stops me buying impulse items too :o)

We take a list when we go shopping. I will only ever buy extra stuff if it is something we normally have, don't necessarily need at that point, and it is a BOGOF.

We're buying veg from the local farm shop at the moment. It's better quality and lasts longer than the stuff at the supermarket.

I used to have one, but as I have hubby at home to do tea I got rid of it!

Far less risk of hubby boiling over! I'm a bit nervous of slow cookers going wrong while I'm out but desperately want to try one all the same. I only have a two-ring and a lean mean grilling machine and miss having an oven.

Ive had one for years and its used mainly in winter. I do struggle with things to do in it but if you look on net there are always loads of recipes. www.cooks.com is one and www.allrecipes.com is another

Get a stay at home hubby who loves cooking! That's what I did!

We never use our George Foreman - a complete waste of money!

i used to use my grill all the time, but now I forget about it. i think something is wrong with it though cos when I do sausages now all the fat misses the tray and end up with puddle on work top. Might need to stand the whole thing in a big tray

I've two George Foreman's and use them all the time, ok I'll rephrase that hubby uses them all the time. I'd hate a stay at home hubby as I'd be peeved I had to go out to work, I'd like to be the one who stayed at home all day, I'd be too jealous.

I do have a slow cook facility on my cooker but just fancy a slow cook pot. x
