We where originally on 295 for a family of 4 at the beginning & found it hard especially as the food & petrol prices went up.
My husband got a small wage increase (& I mean small!) We managed to get our food, etc increased to 327 - but it is still very tight. Their are two adults & 2 children in our home - but the children eat more than me & thats not just junk food - they love fruit & veg!
Final IVA payment made in April 2013, never ever thought we could do it or get through it but we did! X

Hi
It ranges from £204 to £353.
That is a 75% swing from min to maxx.
You can exceed allowances if you have good reason to

Some of the figures quoted here are right at the "scrag end" of food allowances, absolute minimums, depending upon when the proposal was made.

It may all be very well to expect someone to cut back, on a cable TV package for example, but expecting families to live below even reasonable guideline allowances for food for 5 years is another matter entirely.

Regards.

Is liking Caviar and rump steak a good reason to exceed allowances??

I have an illness, and am expected to eat certain foods to help me. With the budget we have to live on this is nigh on impossible.

Plasticdaft's tongue in cheek suggestim would not be sensible, but Sophierose's need for a speacial diet certainly would - the IP would just need to explain the reasoning behind her request for a higher allowance.

Didnt mean to offend anyone with my comment and Sophierose your IP should take into consideration any dietry needs when working out allowances for food.

That should be fine - but I couldn't see a need for a higher allowance for your Slimming World, as that diet is a mixture of good foods which ought to be covered through a usual housekeeping budget.

I agree with Melanie about Slimming World. When I was on that diet I found it was one of the cheaper ones as you can eat normal food. I used to have a lot of green days and eat loads of pasta, which is so cheap.

It really does come down to careful meal planning/shopping. Make sure you have time to do the shop without rushing because to stick to a budget you do need to pick and choose carefully.
At first I had a calculator and shopping list and made sure I couldnt go over budget by only having enough cash on me to pay for what I needed. Now we go without a calculator but still have a list and stick to it.
Finding the best bargains can be fund(how sad I have become!!)
