Went camping once in the South of France - kept getting power cuts, and when I opened the suitcase one morning and a mouse just sat there looking at me (after chewing half the clothes in there!) that was enough!

It's creature comforts or nothing now for me.

I've never been camping, and to be honest I'd rather have my toenails pulled out without anaesthetic! I like my creature comforts - I NEED my hairdryer and straighteners, I NEED to be able to use the loo in the night without crossing a field and I NEED to be as far away from spiders and creepy crawlies as possible!

lol Skippy [:D]
I love the back to basics side of camping! I've spent many nights under canvas and trust me you don't get many 8 legged monsters or you wouldn't catch me anywhere near!! They have mesh over the doors and so long as you keep it closed no monsters get into the sleeping area! You might get the odd duck or sheep though..........
Cat - there's nothing to be brave about camping on your own. Everyone is really friendly and the kids always find someone to play with! Some of the sites these days have all the creature comforts and entertainment or there's still the farm sites.
I really miss it [:(]

I'll take your word for it Pixie! I am better with monsters than I used to be, but the neighbours are probably fed up with me - I was gardening this afternoon and screamed every time I saw one!

Oh Skippy I could have written your post - I have always been put off from camping as there is no where for my straightners and hairdryer!
i also don't fancy sleeping 2 inches off the ground, with all gods creatures heading for my sleeping bag!
I also have aun healthy obssesion with public toilets in that I hate them!
I went to the Isle of Wight festival last year for 3 days and did not once use them!!! I did go home each night, but each day I would wee before leaving home at 10am, and would then wait until our return at midnight to wee again!!!!

lol, with all the fresh air you'll sleep though! If that fails the trick is to take a bucket.... for the kids of course!
Keep a torch handy and you'll be fine! In the summer it's light enough and really refreshing to wander around before anyone else is up.

I'm glad there's someone else like me Kal! I hate public toilets - to be honest I don't even like using the ones at work!

Cat 1 - you should have waved (thats if you knew who we were!!!![:D] We live in Lytham St annes and were on the beach with the dogs about 3.30pm till about 5.00 - it was wonderful and we were just saying how lucky we feel to live where we do. I was brought up on the beach having lived here all my live (just had 4 years away working around Mancheser). I used to swim in the sea. If I get to the friends meeting at Bradford and you are there remind me to show you my "baby" picture.

sorry meant to say in my reply - we are camping I think just for couple of nights (I not a camping fan but husband and younger daughter are. I am off to Seville in two weeks time with my girl friend - started going away for chill out about 4 years ago so still doing as my friend and her sister have paid for the holiday - I have just had to find spending money. I don't think we will get a family holiday though - things very tight. All my stuff giong through for my IVA I think but all sorts of things cropped up and I don't know how I am going to manage (I say I because it all seems to land to me).

My boyfriend is taking me to Barbados for 2 weeks at the beginning of July. He has paid for everything which is so kind of him! I am so excited as there is no way I could afford to even go camping for a few days on my budget!

Elizebeth ...we would happily have waved if we'd seen you! We parked at the pier at St Anne's, but later moved to the Windmill at Lytham.I liked it better there. You do live in a lovely place.Does the sea ever come in there?

Sorry Cat1 only just seen you post. Yes it is lovely - we live in ansdell - near Fairhaven Lake. We often walk up along the front to the Windmill, have a coffee and walk back. We live 5 mins walk from Fairhaven Lake. We go to the other side of the Pier because you can't take dogs by the Pier during May - Sept. The sea does come in. It was coming in yesterday when we got their about 3.30. Our local paper tells us what time as well. We often walk out to sea and then get the flask and chocolate biscuits out. We feel very privileged to live here.
