Ok looked online at this account. My passport is outdated by 3 years, my driving license is the old paper license, and I don't have a co-op branch near me.
Looks like it's gonna be a proper pain in the rear to get this one opened. Best I call them on Monday though
I hope you find your debt solution and your bank account Marcus and I'm sure you will. I, like you knew an IVA was for me and have never regretted it one bit.
I applied for a Co-op account over the phone as it's the cashminder account which is the basic one.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
As Lesley says, you don't have to go into a branch. As long as you are on the voters list then you should be accepted. I think that's pretty much all the Co-op check up on for the basic account.

I'm going to apply tomorrow for the co-op basic account. Does this come with electron or visa debit?
Still not sure what best to do regarding the interim period between applying for an IVA and it getting approved (if it fails, I think I'm going to quit my job and live under my duvet for the rest of my days).
I've been feeling dead positive about sorting this situation out, but today I've been so down in the dumps. We created this mess in 18 months and now I've screwed our lives up for many years.
We've all done the same Marcus but the 60 months do soon pass and in this time you have good times.
Someone who knows the co-op account will be along soon to advise about the card type. In the interim between applying and acceptance of my IVA I didn't pay my creditors and accumulated a little contingency.
It is perfectly normal to have days like you've had today, I can remember the doubting days.

You do need to withdraw it on payday. I was with HSBC and they used to take my loan payment, put it back when there was no money there and then charge me for having done so!
You could always try a paid for account such as Thinkbanking or Secure Trust. Guaranteed acceptance and your wages can be paid across. The only downside is that you have to pay a monthly fee.

The Co-op now give a Visa Debit card with the Cashminder account.
I don't know if they still accept people in IVAs, but Nationwide are starting to give debit cards with their basic Flexaccount.
Just a thought, if you haven't yet missed a payment you might be able to apply for a full account if your credit file is ok. You don't have to have a basic account in an IVA - if you can get a full account then go for it.
I confirm what Skippy is saying as I have a full 'Smile' account and only use it for the cheque book facility as I prefer to use my Natwest Step Account. x
