Hi, I've joined your forum today. Very worried and finding it hard to concentrate on anything at the moment. I contacted Consumer Credit Counselling yesterday and nearest appointment is 10th November for a counselling session. My husband and I owe a massive amount of money, in fact we have far more going out each month than coming in and are currently well over our overdraft limit, cannot draw any more cash out of the bank and are using the credit cards for cash until the next payday! We would like to go down the IVA route and am terrified of being forced to go bankrupt. Please help!
Hi and welcome
If you can post details of your total unsecured debt, equity level and disposible income [money left over after living costs are deducted from your joint incomes but before any payments are made to unsecured creditors]we can try to help and advise

That is a long time to wait for an appointment. Most IPs would be able to speak to you straight away to provide advice, and then you can always go back to the CCCS for a second opinion later.
Hey brown Lizzie, welcome to the forum from me too. Take Melanie's advice. Don't wait all that time. You can still speak to them for a second opinion. You're in the right place here for advice and support so please keep posting. X
Here's the situation. We owe almost £65,000, have always met our repayments but its now out of control. You know the story, borrowing off one card to pay another but now we've totally exhausted them all. Both in good jobs, bring home £2500 a month, no excuses just overspent and hopeless with money. I was told by MBNA that they wouldn't look sympathetically on my case because I was still spending with them just over a week ago, they gave 2 examples £200 in August which was just to stay within my bank overdraft limit and £87 two weeks ago which was for a weekend break for my daughter's birthday, he was just so patronising! Had I had plenty of money in my bank account I would have paid for my daughter's birthday weekend with cash - what do you do!!!???
Lizzie, the guy from MBNA won't be the person voting for your IVA, if you do choose this option, so don't worry about that. Speak to someone on Monday and then at least you will have started the ball rolling. I know this is stressful but you've taken the first step. X
Viki is right - MBNA have a strict acceptance criteria, but there are probably several options you could consider which can be discussed with you when the time is right.
Thank you all so much for responding to me. Its nice to know there are people out there who understand. I've had a totally **** day in work today, can't concentrate on anything which is stupid because I need to keep my job to at least have money coming in. I go home from work in the car every night crying, don't know what to do, I put a brave face on for hubby, he's no good with money and I've told him I will be strong and sort it!
Hi and a welcome from me. Don't worry about speaking to bullying or patronising creditors. You have a problem - you have recognised that and CCCS cannot see you for nearly 2 weeks.
Visit www.iva.com and you will see reviews from practitioners that will be able to help and immediately! Speak to more than one and discuss various options. I am sure you will get the appropriate advice tailored to you and your husbands situation. Good luck.

Hi Lizzie, please take the advice and speak to another company ASAP, at least you will be advised the best route for you. There will be a solution and don't let creditors bully you.
Ask any questions you want on here, we're all at different stages of debt plans and all have various problems caused by debt...I won't bore you with mine...yet [:D]
