hi,everyone this is my first step in tackling my debt problem ,i have been looking at some companies most of them seem to be call centres, when you started out dealing with your debt did you find dealing over the phone satisfactory, or did you prefer a face to face meeting, ilive in the northwest of england

Hi and welcome
Choosing the company to deal with your IVA is so important, you will be enterring into a five year arrangement so it is important to cjhoose correctly
Have a look at www.iva.com for feedback on most companies.

Hi and welcome from myself too, I dealt over the phone with my IP and her representatives and that suited me, it is important to talk to a few companies and as above choose one you feel happy with as it's a five year arrangement. Try the above website and read some reviews.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Hi micawber,

I had real issues with meeting someone face to face to talk about my debt. So intially I wanted to do it over the phone. I personally chose the IVA advice bureau due to the recomendations on here. My IVA was completed over the telephone, but I am sure if I wanted to, I could of have had a face to face meeting.

It was pretty straight forward over the phone and I have also had a contact name for each stage of my IVA, rather than just a telephone number to contact.
50 months down 22 to go!

You can deal with your IP face to face, and if you are self employed then you have to have a face to face.

Visit the link which Andy posted and you won't go far wrong with the companies posting on there.

I dealt with everything over the telephone and it seemed endless but none-the-less it was sorted. I was just so grateful for sharing my stress! I found out about my IP through the citizen's advice website. I wish I had known about this forum at the time but hindsight is a wonderful thing. Even though I am one year into my IVA this forum is fabulous because you no longer feel alone and everyone is so friendly.

If I was handing money over to someone every month for the next five years, I would want to be absolutely certain that they were the right firm to act for me. I encourage all of my clients to come and meet with us personally, but the reality is that the vast majority choose to deal with us over the phone or via e-mail. Nothing wrong in either method - simply choose which route is best for you.

Make sure that, if you deal with the company over the phone, you are able to speak to your actual IP and not only with their staff. While in most cases their staff will be able to sort out any issues, it's important to know that your IP is approachable and available to talk to.

HI Micawber

I am in the NW as well, and dealt with my IVA over the phone and email

I personally stay clear of nameless call centres as you can NEVER get to talk to the same person and it is so impersonal

As others suggest, have a look over on the main site at all the IP's and reviews, then ring a couple and see what fits

I went with Melanie's team in the end (talked to one or two more), I just felt comfortable from the 1st person I talked to upto and including my phone interview with Melanie

GL on whatever you decide

Hi,
I'm in the NW as well and everything was initially done over the phone, prearranged times for my actual I.P. to ring to discuss my situation.
Obviously certain letters etc have to be sent by post for you to read, sign and return as well.
Now I receive emails every so often from my I.P. ( my choice for email contact rather than phone ) to see if everything is ok.
I can email my I.P. directly and ring if I require an immediate answer to any questions.

It really is up to you, I preferred to do it in this manner but some prefer face to face, its whatever you feel comfortable doing.
