Hi
As Kezza rightly states speak to several companies, best to use ones on this site as they are very open and honest. It is well worth a face to face meeting,a small cost in travelling will be far out weighed by the sense of confidence that you will ,hopefully, get.Do not pay your agreed disposible income[this will be your monthly IVA payment]before the IVA has been agreed by your creditors, although I am in favour of an upfront fee for exceptional service. Finally do not feel ashamed or embarrased when you meet your IP,you are addressing your problems in a professional manner and your IP will earn thousands of pounds from your IVA..........MAKE SURE THEY WORK HARD FOR THAT MONEY AND ANSWER ALL YOUR QUESTIONS.
THE VERY BEST OF LUCK.

Hi, we contacted three companies, two we thought were pretty useless and unsuitable, we decided to use Accuma who do not ask for any money up front, we are at the begining of the process and just received the forms to fill in. But as advised it is best to shop around.

Thanks people, we will do our research and we agree that we need to meet these people face to face.
Can you go straight to an IP?

sorry last question for now.
Will it not go against us that we have never missed a payment?
We only just make them every month by borrowing more or moving money from one card to another? On paper we should never be able to afford it. But we always manage one way or another and it's only a matter of time before we really suffer! The banks etc haven't a clue the problems we have.
Thanks,
Ruby

Not at all
Most of the people looking into an IVA are similar to yourselves in that they meet all payments, however difficult, but are just getting deeper and deeper into debt.Your proposal from your IP to your creditors will show this.
I would echo Suzz and go with Accuma.

Hi Ruby, Just thought I'd add something into this post if that's ok. We applied for our joint IVA with Debt Free Direct last May and were accepted in August with combined unsecured debts of about £66,000. We had never missed payments but to be honest, we'd often borrowed from a credit card to pay another or increased an overdraft to meet payments. The 13 companies involved appeared to have no idea of the troubles that we were going through. But when it came to the meeting of creditors, 100%of them agreed to the IVA going ahead. I don't know, but maybe they accept that you're committed to paying your debt if you can meet payments each month?
I'm in an unusual position where I have to pay 100% of my debt back - £523/month and a large remortgage in 4 years but it really is worth it to be able to know that what we spend is what we've earned.
Good Luck Ruby and welcome. The people on here are fantastic and if you take heed of the advice that is offered, it'll make the process so much easier for you.
Take care,
Erica. x
