My IVA finished in March last year. Grant Thornton are finally issuing my certificate this month.

Can I get a mortgage now or do I have to wait for another 5 years? I was never told this when I entered into the IVA but have recently read that it is impossible to obtain a mortgage until 6 years after the IVA finish date!

You may need to to seek advice from a whole market broker - there still remains a few lenders who will NOT offer a mortgage - regardless on when your IVA was - Each lender can and does set its own lending criteria

Use the expert links on this site - for information and advice

I think this relates to 6 years after the IVA starts, not when it finishes.

It's normally 5 years for the IVA and then 1 year after that until the debts on your credit file are shown as 'satisfied' - so 6 years in total.

I would check with a whole of market broker as previously advised if you are past the 6 years above but check your credit files with Experian etc too.

Help that helps!

Some, not all, lenders operate an "in house" policy whereby they will not entertain applications for a period of 6 years post IVA. This is by no means industry wide and many posters have obtained mortgages immediately, or close, after finishing. We have two lending experts, Ryan and Shaun who have helped other forum members.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014
