I think there should be a modest holiday allowed just to stop you going mad!

We went to Portugal last year as our two daughters were bridesmaids for my niece. It cost quite a bit due to the euro being so bad, but what an achievement that we paid for it ourselves. We did use hubby bonus payments to help pay for it, and when we told our IP at our review I was very nervous, but no problem at all no increase in payments and no 50% of bonus money. This was a one off, and we could not let our daughters down and tell them they could not be bridesmaids so all I can say is our IP was sympathetic towards this. Had a lovely time, did not want to come home. This year totally different story no holiday for us which is quite depressing, as I feel this keeps you going, and gives you something to focus on and look forward to during the year.

Although I love going away (somewhere hot preferably!), it didn't bother me that I didn't go anywhere last year, and if we don't manage to get away this year, I will be fine with that.

My goal is the end of my IVA when I can also retire and we will be going on a very exotic holiday![:D]

Jan, you mentioned the North East - if you go stay at Robin Hood's Bay -magnificent countryside, near to Whitby, Scarborough, Runswick Bay. Two decent hotels but you would be better off in a cottage down the hill in the old town. In Whtby there are two good eating places (think they are still there) - Moon and Sixpence and the Marine Try Ingrid Flute Accomodation Agency - very straight to deal with often have deals.

Before my iva I went to Dubai twice and the Maldives. I just put it on the credit card! I'm so ashamed now when I think back. I was mad, but the good money was coming in, so I never gave it a second thought.

I will still go back, but in 6 years time when I save my monthly iva payment! That's what is keeping us going through all of this.

I'm afraid I've only seen the inside of Dubai airport!

Isn't the Maldives wonderful?

we used to go to Barbados, before IVA and redundancy. Yes the credit card paid and I always thought it would be paid back, till I lost my job and was about to have a baby. Still 3 years on and getting there

I've always fancied Barbados. Our ex next door but one neighbour has just moved there (his family are from there originally), so we shall probably go and see him at some point when the IVA has finished.

Our plan is finish IVa, save like mad or hope Hubby's bonus will cover a holiday there. It's keeping us going. As we've got friends there which we haven't seen in a long time now.

It's paradise on earth

i went to south of france, i drove cause i had a company car and fuel was paid for, so cheap holiday and i did the sun holidays, and still do they are cheap and you cant go wrong for a cheap holiday, also we are in to camping again a cheap holiday.

Dont forget an holiday is what you make it and not what it costs, you could spend £k on a holiday and not enjoy it, but enjoy a caravan and camping alot better especially if you have kids
