Been reading a few posts about cars, household items and the like failing, which can be a nightmare for those of us that firstly have little money to spend and secondly can't even think in terms of credit.

Well during my IVA I came across a local free ads site called GUMTREE...just Google it. Its really a great site and I speak from experience, after all as the owner of a 11 year old Mondeo, which requires more attention than my 2 month old Grandson, it has been worth its weight in gold.

I realise second hand items are not everyones cup of tea but needs must and sometimes buying a second hand washer etc can be much less expensive than even a call-out fee.
I came into this world with nothing and still have most of it left!

I do agree pennyless there are things to be had and I often see my friends on FB saying what they've got. I've never personally had or offered anything so can't say but if needs must I would. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Don't forget Freecycle as well.

I've never needed to use it thankfully but would if I was desperate.

Good point Kallis...it did cross my mind but couldn't recall the name. My brother uses Freecycle regularly.

I always said I wouldn't use it, but if push came to shove I'd probably be glad of it.

My son got a vitually brand new hotpoint washing machine and a fridge freezer off gumtree. He is not in an IVA, but is always on the lookout for a bargain, He paid £100 for the pair. would have been nearer £500 new, and they are as new condition, came from a house clearance after a death.
IVA completed 15-3-2011

My Dad when he was alive bless him was loaded and still bought everything off a car boot or similar! Always one for a bargain if only I'd have inherited his frugal ways I wouldn't be in this position. x

I tried to register with Freecycle but it seemed a lot of hassle - I had to set up a new email address and I couldn't be bothered! A friend of mine used it and she was really impressed. Not that I've got anything to offer though - I'd rather try selling it first!

I've never used gumtree but will take a look.

I try and sell what I can - just sold a pair of boots on ebay and have a few other items on at the moment. Would like to take grandaughters to bluestones for a long weekend, so trying to raise some pennies [:)]

I have loads of stuff to go on Ebay - having three weeks off work soon so will list it all and hope it goes.

Got a bargain today in Tesco - a very nice top reduced to £2.50!

Gumtree is actually part of the eBay group of companies, but is sometimes a lot better than the main eBay site because gumtree has a more localised feel, i.e. most people tend to search for items in their own city.

I use both sites and have managed to sell a few items through both.

We got some real bargains from as well. Since beginning our IVAs, a lot of items that we have bought have come from eBay/gumtree or second hand charity shops. There are some real bargains on clothes and children's toys in the charity shops.

The only negative to gumtree is the amount of stolen items fenced on there, bikes of all sorts that are stolen be them road or mountain bike often find themselves on Gumtree, a mate had his house broken into and found that the contents of his living room was on gumtree 2 weeks later. Im saying its a bad site but buyer beware.

LOL just re-read, should read im not saying its a bad site, but buyer beware.

That's an interesting snippet and I never thought of that. I suppose it's no different to Ebay in that stolen goods could be sold on there as well.
