Apparently Grant Thornton feels it is outside the sphere of influance of the Financial Ombudsmen service.

Recieved last night in my e-mail box after i had brought them to task over false dates on letters they stated

"Grant Thornton are not regulated by the Ombudsman"

Considering we have thier regulatory body the Financial Conduct Authority and their license is overseen by the Office of Fair Trading and even advertise on thier website you may complain to the Financial Ombudsmen if find this statement amazing and shows them in thier true light.

Any of our professionals any advice on this amazing claim?

Technically I do believe that GT and all other IVA companies are not 'regulated' by the Ombudsman but by the IPA or other governing bodies. Still a pretty blasé statement to make.

They are correct to say that they are not regulated by the Financial Ombudsman. The Ombudsman only deals with the regulation of non-formal solutions - such as DMPs, or work which is carried out by the IP prior to a formal appointment taking place.

The more and more i see of IVA pratices make me realise there are too many holes allowing IP's to get away with murder if they choose to do so.
Very tempted tp contact some of the national papers over it thier financial sections always like something juicy to bite into.

So melanie you telling me that Ip's can blatantly lie to you and then just say we not regulated because we make our ouwn regulatory bodies? considering GT "bought" my IVA then the Office of Fair Trading it the people to talk to since the product they are providing is far different to the product they forcing people into and to the detriment of the creditors.

As an IP in practice, having held an insolvency licence for 17 years, I would completely disagree with your views viperboyz. It is a great shame that a small handful of IP firms may be causing the general public to have this view of a largely honourable and reputable profession.

I am not commenting further on this post. If you have a complaint to make, then you should make it directly to your IP or their regulatory body. It takes a lot of hard work and professional qualification to become an IP - and I am proud of my practising certificate every single day.

Unfortunately GT are not a small firm they one of the major players if they taking the michael others will say well if they can get away with it....such is human nature when it comes to money.
You seem to be one of the good guys melanie but it's clear many other firms dont share your sense of ethics and professionalism.

From my understanding GT are 1 of the largest and most flexible firms. I am sure the propotion of complaints is similar to other firms. I have spoken to many who have been more than satisfied with GT and I have spoken to many who are dissatisfied with other IPs they happen to be with. I don’t think it is right that this forum has become more about bashing 1 particular company rather than somewhere people to come and learn about IVAs and get good impartial advice.
in my experience the foot stampers are the ones that want everything to go their own way without compromise but that is not always possible in an IVA and I’m am sure there plenty of IPs and debtor out there who would agree with me. it’s just a shame that IPs end up being the 1s that get caught in the middle.
just trying to help

I am sure if you were still waiting 24 months for your CC after being strung along with lame excuse after lame excuse then you may take a far different stance. I also don't believe that anyone who made the sacrifices we make in and IVA did it so we can stamp our feet and get everything our own way, I in fact take that statement as an insult not only to my decision to undertake an IVA but also to my integrity.

I'm not a foot stamper - my F&F payment was only 11 months ago but I would still like my completion certificate. I have had a lack of communication from Grant Thornton, letters for my ex husband sent to my address, a breach sent out when I had twice explained why no annual income and expenditure form had been completed (due to the F&F payment) and when I see that customers with other IPs receive regular communication and completion certificates within a couple of months of final payment I feel that something isn't quite how it could be.
Paid F&F in July 2012 and received CC in July 2013 :-)

What a wonderful person you are MerlinL14, to make "such sacrifices" (please explain what they are/were) in order to rip off banks and financial institutions for thousands of pounds.

Whatever your reply, I doubt it will say much for your "integrity".
Try dealing with facts
