Evening all!!!

After much diliberation and a promise to my other half, ive decided to finally quit smoking! (well have a try again anyway!!)

Ive smoked since i was 15 (16 years [xx(]) and today went to see the 'fun police' at work and i have now in my posession a new shiney nicorette Inhalator (its like a plastic cigerette with cartridge inserts!!)

Has anyone else recently quit? Anyone got any hints or advice?

best wishes
Arty

Good luck from me too. I gave up on May 13th 2006.......officially. I won't say I've never had another cigarette since that day as in times of real stress I was able to have one or two and then stop again. I've not had a cigarette now honestly in 8 months and can honestly say i couldn't smoke now.

My advice is to take it one day at a time, don't think long term just day at a time.

My daughter and son in law have recently stoped (they used tablets) and the've been 11 weeks now without smoking.

All the best. x

Gave up about 16 years ago and not touched one since and did it cold turkey.

I do still fancy a cigarette now and then but never gone back onto them.

Best of luck with it. I have never smoked -- my mum was on 60 a day and could have been a wealthy woman if not for the weed! Probably be a living one too !!!
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

hi, i gave up 4 weeks ago using the inhalator and patches, i was on 20 a day, ive found the 15mg 16 hour patches (you take them off at night) help. Its not been easy but i keep thinking of the money, the smell, my health. I found the best thing to tell myself is 'today i am not having a cigarette'. for the first couple of weeks i treated myself to something that was just for me. Like i say, its not been easy and i have put on about 7lbs but i am going to worry about that in a few weeks time. Good luck, dont be too hard on yourself if you give in, but keep trying xx ps to save money you can ask for a months supply of patches on one single prescription charge xx

I gave up 6 years ago, hubby and I were 40 a day people, we gave up together,
The best tip I can give you is what we did, when we got in from work we showered straight away, then got undressed so if we really got the urge it was too much troiuble to go get dressed, go up the shop buy ciggies, go back get undressed again etc.
Put the money you are not spending one one side (or a certain amount even if it is only £2, buy yourself a treat at the end of the week with what you have saved.
If you do give in and have one, dont think thats it and carry on smoking, just think oif it as a blip and go back to none.
If life is what you make it, I must have been in a strange mood when I made mine

well done Clairsmiler, keep it up.

Pandy great advice about if you have one don't think that's it...I had that attitude and it worked for me.

Hay all you lovely peeps! [:D]

thanks for your thoughts, advice and words of encouragement!

Ive started today on the inhalator (its like smoking a woodbine!!) and will take some gettinh used to, however the woman from smoking cessation getting talking about 'reduce to quite' using the inhalator has one of the highest quit rates, so i removed 2-3 cigatrettes i normally have a day and replace them with the inhalator, keep doing that for 2 weeks until im fully on the inhalator and all the ciggies have been replaced etc.

The only other way clinically better is Champix but they made me vom for england and made me soooo ill[xx(]

well done claire on your recent stopping too, sounds like your doing really well!

So we'll see how get on......but expect lots of rants, angry angry rants [:(!]

I gave up after many attempts, in march 1998. After a 20 year 40 a day habbit
It was hard work, mostly cold turkey, occasionally i used the nicorette chewing gum.
Unfortunately, it was pre iva obviously, so any savings just got swallowed up in the maelstrom of debt.
I could still smoke one, oddly enough, but i dont think i could afford to start again now.

First time I gave up I used accupuncture - a very strange feeling but it worked for a number of years and then stress took over and I started again.

Second time was when I had my daughter and I was off them for a number of years and then, stupidly, started again.

Last time, that was it - I could still fancy one every now and then but have managed to resist. The last two times have been cold turkey and apart from weight gain, no other problems.

I'll never go back to cigarettes again!!!

I tried the nicotine patches for a while, they were really hard to light though.

OT!

My daughter and her hubby used Champix and it's worked for them with no side effects. I never thought I'd see the day he went without a cigarette but he's proven me wrong which I'm fairly pleased about.

All the best to all those stopping, it's hard work but worth it in the end. x
