Forgotten how to write a cheque

I have arranged for the "The Wheelie Cleaners" to come and clean my bin once a month (we get fortnightly collections here and my bin was running alive with all sorts of horrible, disgusting creatures in the heat). They required me to send a cheque as payment. I haven't used a cheque book in three years now but I have one with my mistakenly opened RBS account which still seems to be running ok and so I used that account ... had forgotten how to write a cheque though ... it's been so long!

My husband has the idea of setting up a Wheelie Cleaning Business Debbie, we don't have wheelie bins in our area we're still on weekly black bag collections, but if they're every introduced he plans on jumping on that band wagon pretty quick. He got the idea from my Mum's area!

I was lost for a couple of months without a cheque book as daughters school wants cheques even for amounts as small as £3.00. I used to have to take the money to the finance office as she wouldn't! I opened a Smile account (with Melanies permission) and the only money I put in there is to cover anything for daughters school basically and I gave my son a £10 chq for his birthday in May which he is still to cash!

I rarely need to write a cheque, but I do miss having a cheque book. I hate having to ask Dave or my mum to do it for me.

We have fortnightly collections as well and it really annoys me - the bins smell and the council's answer is put tea tree oil in them! I bought a tub of Jeyes Bin Fresh and that has made a difference. The most worrying thing is our council is talking about a third bin for food waste - won't that smell nice in the heat!

I have a lovely fresh bin now and I have stuck some pretty numbers to it so everyone knows it's mine. I think the wheelie bin cleaners is a franchise Lesley ... on a similar note every three months the "Dial a Dog Wash" lady comes visit Harry in her especially adapted van ... a pooch salon on wheels! ... another brilliant service!

I've seen the pooch mobile Debbie, it comes to a dog down our street, I never bath either of my dogs I have to admit!

Wow, you lucky people with wheelie bins and black sacks. Our skinflint council won't even provide the bags, we have to supply our own!![V] Yet they are happy to charge an absolute fortune in council tax! Kazzy x

My cheque book is about 4 years old. I needed to write a cheque for something for my son from school and had to ask the school secretary how to do it. [:I][:I]

Kazzy, we have green wheelie bins for normal rubbish, brown wheelie bins for food and garden waste, blue plastic boxes for tins, bottles etc and a bag for papers, cardboard and magazines! There isn't a lot we can't recycle.

we have a black bin for general waste, a green one for garden waste, a black box for glass and paper and a purple bin bag for plastic bottles and cardboard!! can you imagine our cul de sac on bin day..

We have green bags for recycling and black bags for your household rubbish. All provided for, I was totally ignorant to the difference in areas.

I have some old cheques with the 19 still written in on the date part for the year, shows how old they are are how often I use cheques

Cheques - luxury!! This post is making me think of my impending move back to Bristol where we have small food bins, large food bins (brown boxes, Black boxes, black bins)!! Alternating collections for re-cycle stuff and the wheelie bin - I hope I can remember how to do it all!!
I used to have my bin cleaned and I used a sandwich bag to hold the money selotaped inside the lid of the bin on cleaning day - for those of u without a cheque book who would like to use a similar service.

I do miss a cheque book and debit card for shopping it is a pain looking for a HSBC cash machine to draw out money but I am sure that it was having a debit card that helped me get into the mess I am in as I found it so easy to use a card a forget how much I had spent at least with a cheque book you have the stub to remind you even if you haven't completed it at the time. strangely I don't miss credit cards.

Jan ... do you have a cashplus card ... I wouldn't be without one for emergencies such as not being able to find a cashpoint. I load mine up each week at the Post Office and put on it the money for my petrol and weekly shopping and there is always some extra money sitting on there in case I need it in an emergency.
