Hi guys - sorry I haven't been around much. My Fibromyalgia and ME have kicked in big time and it's causing tendonitis in both elbows so keeping typing to a minimum.

I just wanted to say that this time of year is very tough on everyone financially. If you are really struggling see if you have a foodbank in your area, I work for our local one both as a volunteer and a paid member of admin staff and I see many sad and anxious faces walk through our door.

No-one should be ashamed to use the foodbank. I did once due to a change in our family set-up when I was working for them.

The link to the Trussell Trust is below - please don't go without food. This time of year we need to keep ourselves nourished.

If you are managing - well done, it's not easy in an IVA. If you see an offer of buy one, get one free and your supermarket has a collection point could you consider putting the free item in the box. It helps so many people.

Sorry if I am banging on here about it - it's a cause I am passionate about!![:)]

and rightly so you are passionate, I watched the documentary a few weeks ago on Food Banks as I was interested, not to receive food just for knowledge of what they were and how they worked.

A worthy cause. I will try and buy some dog biscuits or food and drop it in the animal shelter box in the supermarket myself but all of these good causes need donations as without them both humans and animals would be hungry.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

We have been lucky as some people have donated a lot of food if their pets have died and so we can also keep those little mouths fed when people with pets visit us for help.

We have our share of 'tryers' but living in a small town helps as we always manage to find out those who are a little economic with the truth!

Nice to hear from you kazzafunk .....sorry to hear you haven't been well.
Food banks are being used more and more so donations on a regular basis are needed....our local food banks have trollies in all the supermarkets for donations as people leave.....last weekend I witnessed one elderly gentleman leave his whole trolley there......the collection helpers were staggered by this kind generosity......I for one will be donating over the next couple of weeks a few things that will see people through the festive period and beyond
Sharing from experiences of dealing with debt

There is a solution for everyone .... Just need to stay positive !

we have just had a local food bank set up in our area, its good to know that there is a little extra help if we need it and from what i have been reading waitrose and asda are supporting the food banks, donating dented tins etc would be good to see other companies doing it too
Alas, I am dying beyond my means.

We did a foodbank collection on the first weekend in dec, not sure if it will be a regular thing but was great press for tesco, and the local community loved it, we have over 100 of the green trays full of tins and bits and bobs.

One thing too mention if you can donate they need toilet rolls, toothpaste soap etc just basic human needs, i popped £20 worth of donation into the collection point, every little helps!

I know this is irrelevant but...

I remember when I was a little girl in Portugal, living with my mum and two syblings, there were times we went hungry, so I learned from a very early age that there is no point in being too proud to seek help. I used to go to our local foodbank ran with with help of the Redcross, and it was like Xmas every time... I knew we would eat for the next week.

They were a god sent, and until that report on TV a few weeks ago, I had no idea they also existed here.

There have been a few times while on the IVA that we lived with an nearly empty fridge, but now I know if things ever get that bad again, I can seek help.

These people are wonderful, and so are the ones who contribute towards them.

It's reassuring to know there is help out there and from the generosity of the posters on the forum alone it proves there are people willing to contribute to these x

Sorry I've been away - still struggling with tendonitis and various other ailments relating to my Fibro so life sucks at the moment.

We managed to receive 940 kg of donations at our Tesco weekend which is fantastic as we also get on average 60 - 70 kg donated in the bin at Tesco each week.

What is brilliant is Tesco also give us 30% of the value in giftcards which we can use when we need items such as nappies etc.

Unfortunately we are not allowed to give dented tins out - ridiculous really but we find ways around this (normally one of us buys the food and puts the funds back into buying more stock!)
