I have seen forum posters recommending the Co-operative Bank. Give them a try.

i managed to get a barclays cash card account even though they were a creditor. I got one with smile too but they are only on the net and really needed one on the high st. Try going into the bank as all the ones I replied to online refused

Hi Mark

I also had problems opening up a bank account - I kept getting declined!! I then opened one with HSBC but cancelled it as I heard they close the accounts of people in an IVA even if you don't have a debt with them.

I am now with Alliance & Leicester, I had no problems opening it up and I have a debit card with it and online banking. It also came with an Alliance & Leicester savings account which I am saving my car tax/insurance money into each month.

I applied for it online and had a decision within an hour.

Hope this helps.

I know others might not like having to pay but so far I have found think banking to be excellent it cost £15 a months (£25 set up fee) you have two accounts one for the bill and one you can use a debit card with.
When you are paid money is kept behind to cover bills and then the left over is transferred over.

In over my head looking for somewhere to turn
In and IVA and looking forward to the future

Have you tried Nationwide? They have two levels of their Flexaccount, one with a debit card and one with a basic cashcard which I have. So far I am really pleased with them. I also have a basic Co-op Cashminder account but I have found them very slow and they don't have many branches.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

I went and had a chat with the manager at my local Lloyds TSB told them what I was planning to do. It was not a problem and they let me open a basic account.
IVA completed

Hi Markr
did you have a look at think banking I too am with them and have found them to be great, as said before there is a monthly charge but you could pay as much for a pre paid credit card. Will definately accept you and can be opened over the phone in minutes.

I went into lloyds and opened an account without any problems only trouble is cash card can only use lloyds cash machines not debit card. Then I went in person to co-op and was honest and up front about my debts they offered a cashminder account with a debit card. You cannot get overdrawn because they take off what you debit as you go and all you have to do is insert the card into any machine, it tells you whats available. You have much better access to your money cos you can use any link machine. I think its much better to go in person though. It takes around a week for your card and pin to come through, Its free. AVOID HSBC AND FIRST DIRECT.

Hope this helps

I suppose that's the one good thing about an IVA. The creditors can only get what the IP gives them according to the agreement.
They'll see all that money going into the account and they can't touch it.
