Hubby is going to his NHS dentist again today for his last but one treatment and I'm feeling confident that I'm going to move over from my private practice to his at this minute so long as nothing changes I will register with them.

Thanks Lyns for offering support I may well call you up on that one x

My friend has offered to take me if I need to go back because our NHS dentist is in another town. There is no one near where I live taking on NHS.

Your welcome Lesley no problem x

My 4 hour teaching session in this morning for a mixed group had the student from hell in, I think it was Bill Gates in disguise as he knew everything until it came to the exam and failed!

In the end I had to walk out at 12:15 instead of 1:30 when he was doing a re-sit and leave my Invigilator there or I'd have had a complaint against me as I was ready to throttle him. Marking now and he's still on my mind, a horrible person! Sorry rant over!

Let my diet down and dipped in the Roses for medicinal purposes of course!

Bless you Lesley, I think I would of had to walk out too, there is always one isn't there!
When I used to work on reception in a hotel it was behind a desk with a locked door for security. So when you got a difficult customer you could not escape! Sometimes I had to stop myself from flying over the desk & keep on smiling! We were supposed to "get" the manager for the really bad ones, but could you find them or make them wear a pager - No!

Right Lyns I've done it I've made the appointment and did talk to the receptionist and say I'm a very nervous patient and she's put me on the books of someone who she personally recommended so a fortnight today I go for a check up with my NHS dentist! I'm going at the same time as hubby fetches his 4 new teeth! he he! I'm half hour before him so he can come in with me if necessary and she reassured me they don't or won't do anything that I don't want doing.

I can but try and am that scared that I did cry in the car on the way home just because I had an appointment!

Lesley Im so proud of you & I am sure they have booked you in with the right dentist whom deals with patients like us.
A Check up is nothing to feel worried about it, but our fear is so common, & like you I cried n became a nervous wreck on booking mine n the boys check up.
Some people visit the dentist like visiting the supermarket, but for me & u its a massive trauma. But we have to look after ourselves to give ourselves the best chance in life & that includes looking after our teeth & mouth. They can spot things we can not nor can a GP, & some of those things can only be found & spotted by a Dentist. We have to do it hun, so we need to go for those regular check ups, we do not have to agree to anything that they want to do, but they are only looking out for our health of our mouths & teeth.
After I booked my appointment I got really upset but I thought to myself, I have to be brave for my boys because I dont want them to grow up & have the same fears as me. Ive had all sorts of work done over the years from being a child, its no wonder why I hate/fear them.
BUT I have found they are sympathetic will only do work thats need & with your consent.

Please give yourself a pat on the back n be proud that you made the appointment for a check up, because thats all it is hun.
I was still nervous n shaking before mine & going in to see the dentist, but I had to keep a grip for my boys. I was fearing the worst & always do, only to find very little wrong.
I am always very open n say if Im scared or worried & on my last appointment they were very good with me.
Julie really helped me with the idea on my last appointment when I had a filling of singing "10 green bottles" & I did it in my head n I did not get past 9 green bottles & it was over. And I really felt abit silly over my worries/anxieties after, but I would feel the same anxiety/stress/worry all over if I had to do it all again.

U have to think positive n be proud of yourself for doing it, its over in minutes x If you want my mobile number on the day that you go & I hope you go , you will go! I will be here to chat you through it x

Im so so proud of you n big hugs too xxxxx

Aw thanks Lyns means so much. I've done it and I'll attend, hubby goes for his 4th and final treatment that night as I didn't want to go alone. I have been sitting in the waiting room for him on his other 3 appointments so I've got used to the place and I've scrutinised the people going into the dentist and how they are when they've come out and none have been distraught. The receptionists appear friendly.

Tonight he was only in for 5 mins and in that time I plucked up the courage to speak to her, I had been to the desk once and made a fool of myself by saying I'm just going to have a think and I'll come back, the poor girl must have thought I'd lost the plot!

Second time I went to the desk I blurted out and she was very understanding and told me she knew the perfect dentist for me and she honestly wasn't just saying that (I can only believe her). It' done now so hopefully in a fortnights time I'll be sitting here all smug as I'll have been and I've not had a polish and scale before and I want one although my hubby has told me it's not the most pleasant thing in the world. Being NHS I can afford it.

Again thanks Lyns, it's nice to have someone who understands as my hubby just goes and is not bothered whom he sees as nothing bothers him. x

Your so welcome & so not alone hun.

My hubby has no fear at all either, he has had all sorts done n it never bothers him. Makes me quite frustrated when he just does not understand my fear!

Scale & Polish is actually ok, its not that bad at all & your teeth feel so lovely after, you find bits of your teeth that you never knew were there! Then you know what was plague n not your teeth!

You will be fine hun, be brave & be proud of yourself & think positively about doing it, for you & your health.

If I can do it then you can too x & I mean it about the mobile number, even if you wana text me on the way as I text my friend say "I dont wana go" :( it might just help to get you through the door x
