F+F Offer to Get My Job!

I've spoken to my nearly-new employers today (the ones who've turned me down because of my IVA), and they said that they really want me, so if I can get a F+F on my IVA, they'd be happy to employ me. It's the police service, by the way....

I owe 26k (fees included), and have paid off £2400 in the past year. One of my friends is willing to stump up 10k for a full and final offer, which would bring the total payments made to £12400.

Any ideas or thoughts or questions would be much appreciated

Seems on the low side, but with a good reason for it - which you undoubtedly have - I would put it forward if I were your IP. Just seems stupid that the effect of this will make you neither a better person or affect your ability to do that job.

Ah, sorry....I owed 26k before I was in the IVA, but they've agreed my payments at £200 a month for 5 years - £12k, so with this, they'd be getting £400 more. Sorry; the 26k related to the initial debt I had.

You really do need to beg your IP to close this down as soon as they can. I recently closed a case for a policemen who needed it done quickly to get into the Met's firearms support team, and we managed it within 40 days of the creditors meeting - but I had agreed all of the claims prior to the meeting so it was relatively simple to do.

That's great advice; I'll ask them tomorrow. The cash is available almost immediately, so as long as they can move, too, things will hopefully be OK.

Do you think that the offer itself is good enough?

As I said earlier I feel that the offer is on the low side - so the nearer you can get to the figure originally offered would be the best option. Do you have any other generous friends or family members?

I thought it would've been OK; I've read lots of posts on various forums that if you can offer them what they'd get after 5 years, they're more likely to go for it, but I will see if I have any other generous relatives, yes!

But your original post said you had contracted to pay in £26,000 of which you have paid £2,400. Or am I misreading it and is £26k the figure you owe in total?

£26000 was the original amount of my debt.

The terms of my IVA are £200 a month over 5 years = £12000.

So I'm expected to pay the latter figure over the duration of my IVA, not the former.

Does this make a difference?
