I try and use Quidco whenever possible as that is money for something you were going to do anyway.

I wish I could give b***** as I used to but since my transfusion they won't let me :(
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

I give blood on a regular basis and even struggled in the snow the week before Christmas to give, was a really empty session though, never seen empty beds before, normally it is full with people sitting on chairs waiting for an available bed

I'm ashamed to say I've never given blood - I'm terrified of needles. I know I should do, so maybe I'll make it my New Year's resolution!

The last time I gave blood I got "outed" with high BP .. summoned to the GP .. and not allowed to give it any more :-(

I didn't realise that high BP was a problem. I doubt they'd let me give blood in that case - when I go to the doctors my BP is through the roof, although when I take it at home it's normal, sometimes low! The doctor checks my monitor and now accepts the readings from that.

Skippy -- you have "white coat syndrome" ... often happens! With very high BP, the body pumps chemicals into the blood to try to lower it, and now my blood is full of meds to do the same thing. So the last thing you want to pump into someone in need of blood are chemicals to lower their BP ! Apparently they can't be filtered out of blood products, so I am told. The Transfusion Service people treated me like an unexploded bomb at the time!

Although going to the doctor doesn't really bother me I sit in the waiting room and I can feel my heart beating twice as fast as normal! I'm careful which doctor I see now as there is one who insists my BP has to be normal in the surgery. She won't accept it's not going to happen!

I used to give blood, needles have never bothered me at all. I can't give it now though due to high blood pressure.

Gutted that I can't.

Likewise -- I feel slightly guilty when I see appeals for donors to come forward.

However, I seem to have taken this thread somewhat off track and apologise to the OP.
