Hi

When looking at the expenditure for our BR petition how much would be allowed to assist our daughter going to uni?

She is staying in halls and although she is applying for all the grants and loans available and will work part time she still requires our assistance but I'm not sure what would be deemed an appropriate level of assistance.

Thanks
Dee

You need to put doewn exactly what you anticipate spending, and then see if the OR will allow any of it.

I think the best thing you can do here is to try and work out the cost that your daughter will incur. Obviously you will need to find how much she will receive from her student loan or grant. She will need to pay for her first years rent from the loan and food as well. The costs depend on which University she goes to. Generally it costs about £75 per week for the rent and food and others amounts to £50 as a guide.
The main problem will be 2nd and 3rd years with the need to act as a guarantor for her rent as they usually live outside the Halls for the second and third years.
Hope this helps.

Good Luck

We think that she will need about £40 per week from us to make it possible for her go. I just hope that this is allowed.
