Well folks, today we have brought the little dog home. He is much better and looks back to his normal self(touches wood),and my wallet is £204 emptier than it was before. The wife has worked some extra shifts and the costs will be mostly reimbursed by the pet insurance we pay so its not too bad. The dog will be on a medication called Vivitonin for the long term, cost at our vets £10.50 for 10 tablets(dog is on 1 a day) so roughly £365 for the year, ouch. I have just however found a website that halves that cost and gives free delivery so thought I would share it with the animal lovers(though people may already know about it). Its www.bestpetpharmacy.co.uk . What a result,we have the dog home and his medication doesnt cost half of what I thought. handy that coz next month my car is due its MOT!! Doh,in one hand and more out the other!!!

Happy Days!!

Paul

Paul,

I'm so pleased your dog is on the mend - it must be a huge relief for you, and thank god for pet insurance!!!!!!

That site sounds a good one. I shall bookmark it for future reference.

I've just had a look at that site, and I see that you have to get the prescription signed by your vet. I wonder how many vets will sign it because they will be losing revenue?

I'll still give it a try if I need it.

As of october 2005 vets must by law write out a prescription. The law was changed to allow more competition in the pricing of vet care. Some may charge for this but it will still not costs as much to get the pills online.

Hi Plasticdaft

I don't have a dog but did have this problem with one of my cats when she was 17. with a 3 month course of medication she got through it and lived until she was 24 (I blame the tablets) Obviously I can't say its the same for canine friends but I can so no reason why it should not be. Best of luck, I know what its like when a furry friend is ill.

I wasn't aware of that Paul. I'll remember it next time I need tablets.

I take it your dog is still on the mend?

Yes,doggy is on the mend. Insurance claim was handed in to the vets today so should get a cheque for about £75,not quite the 204 it actually cost but due to age thats the excess we have to pay. Also getting the vet to write out a prescription for the medicine he needs so I can get online.(vet didnt even question me on it).
