My posting was in no way directed as a critique of you Andy - your posting led to iamfubb2 making a decision based upon a more informed position than when he/she first posted. I suspect that all of us have helped that process a little bit along the way, but the decision has come firmly from themselves.
Glad you've made a decision and you've done your homework so I sincerely hope all works out for you. All the best and look forward to your continued posts as your journey will help others.x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
I'm very at a very early stage of my IVA, having just been accepted in May, and I am with CCCSVA. I haven't spoken to my IP yet but I have to say that all the advisers I have spoken to have been very helpful and professional. Also, I feel they listened to me with reference to my expenditure I we agreed a fair amount to be paid monthly.
It's early days but I'm happy with their service so far, although I guess I would find out for sure how good/bad their system is if I encounter problems.
FYI - I approached one of the main contributors to this forum around 18 months ago regarding an IVA and was advised not to proceed but to change my mortgage to interest free for a year and see how my situation changed ..... it did change, my debts continued to increase under the immense interest and my situation got worse. I felt it was very bad advice and I could have been 18 months closer to debt freedom!
Just saying ...... being able to contact an IP easily and them doing a good job are 2 different things!
The hardest part is telling a stranger about your problems ...... it's also the most important!

Very intersting post, steered away from an IVA by a provider(or were they)? Perhaps the person who gave the initial advice was only trying to help by not wanting you to start an IVA before it became absolutely neccessary.Sad to read that it didn't work out, but good to know that so far CCCS are working out OK for you. It would be good if you kept posting to keep us/me up to date on your progress as i am myself going to be dealing with CCCS very soon. Quite a thought provoking statement at the end of your post!

Any form of insolvency should be a last resort and I find it quite honourable that an IP would take time to review a case and give an opinion without thinking of their fee. I can't comment on the advice itself as I don't know the details of the case, what was said or how you implemented the suggestion. But, the thought that an IP would give so selflessly of their time would reassure me they were working in my best interests.
I agree with BoL. The IP in question was certainly not out to take your money or they would have jumped at the chance to represent you. It may well have been that in your situation at the time the best solution was the one that they advised. Without the need to budget as you are in an IVA, things can continue to spiral out of control as you have no accountability to anyone. It may be that some sound budgeting advice would not have gone amiss at the time. I can't really comment as I don't know your situation but I for one had no inclination to budget before my IVA and being "forced" to do so is the best thing that has happened to me.
Take what life throws at you and hold your head up high. You're only human after all!!!
We have been with the cccsva for 19 months now, and its been going ok.
From the very first phone call to them, which i found very hard to make, their adviser's i felt gave us good advice, and they listened to us, and did not make us feel ashamed about any of our debts.
The budget had been discussed many times before agreeing to it, using alot of questions that other people had posted on this site.Really to make sure that we knew what we were getting involved in.
Our main concern was our house first and formost, we needed to protect it from the creditors and thats the main reason we went for a IVA and not a DMP which i understood at the time was a informal arrangement between you and your creditors, and they could withdraw from the arrangement at any time, and also the issue with the intrest, could it be stopped until we had payed it all back?
We felt with the IVA 5-6 years then debt free was a good choise for us.
Our adviser is ok, to be honest its probley me having the hump now and then having somebody telling me what i can and cannot do with our wages!!!!
But we did have a problem with the clutch going on the wifes car last year and i got on the phone and stright away was told take a payment break and get it fixed, so i cant fault them for that.
You can pretty much get through on the phone anytime you ring them so overall im would you believe happy!!![:D]
Not sure if im ever going to be able to speak to Jackie Westerman the IP though, but then again i have not needed to.
Funny to read about Portsmouth football clubs debts in the paper. Paying back 2 pence i the pound!!! And we worry when the dividend is aound 30p.
That would be so funny if Andy were to become a millionaire from this site! Talk about rags to riches!!! Well, not quite rags but you know what I mean LOL!
