Hi Mel, we haven't liaised with the 3rd party for months, we've finished with them. They had no influence over our finances only to give advice on the comings and goings of the IVA paperwork. In retrospect, we should have only dealt with Tenon and perhaps we put too much trust in the 3rd Party (can I name them on here?). We honestly thought it was the way all IVA's were handled...through a 3rd party, then they dealt with Tenon on our behalf. You must understand that the frame of mind we were in when we entered the IVA, you could have said Katie Price was the Queen of England and we would have believed you!

I will get my wife to phone Tenon regarding the VAT thing. I don't understand why they need our signatures and to be honest, my mind is fuzzy over the whole damn thing. My wife's thoughts are a little less fuzzy!

Tenon have been slow in coming forward on all aspects of the IVA from start to finish, and wish we'd researched a whole lot more before chosing them to deal with our IVA...but hindsight is a great thing.

You can name the third party if you think others would benefit from that knowledge.

I perfectly understand how you must have been feeling at the time you entered into your IVA. At this stage you are probably at your most vulnerable, and this is when IPs must be certain that you are fully understanding all aspects of the commitment you are entering by proposing the IVA.

Tenon are a good firm - I know the IP there quite well - and I am sure they will sort this matter out for you soon. From another posting on the forum relating to the proposed variation of terms, it seems that they are calling meetings simply to get clarity on their costs for handling the VAT reclaim issue, so probably nothing to worry out too much.

Thanks Mel, The 3rd Party was fh Debt Solutions and I suppose they did their best in the difficult and changing sector of IVA's. They now seem to go down the road of Money Management instead of IVA's.

I'm still not clear, even after completing my IVA, whether a person in debt should use a 3rd party introductory company, or go straight to an IP? We tend to see adverts everywhere for the former and conclude that this is the way to go. If this is so, why do not IP's advertise their services more readily and cut out the middle man?

I went through a third party...it was quite a shock when I realised the people who had gone through my I&E and collected my paperwork weren't the people who would ultimately be proposing my iva! No one mentioned this!! Anyway, they also forgot to tell me to make two iva-sized payments to them froM the money I saved not paying creditors...so they ended up with £100 as I refused to pay any more!

Hmmm, I was with GT and received my certificate from them 27 April after a 6 months wait. I received a 'Supervisors Receipts & Payments Account Balance sheet. VAT is charged on there @ £1087.49 but with an astrix by it. Underneath it says quote 'VAT charged historically will be reviewed and dealt with appropriately in due course'

GT are closing cases irrespective of the VAT issue!
IVA finished Oct 2011, CC received 27 April 2012, No longer on Insolvency Register 01 May 2012. Jan 2013 - all Credit Files squeaky clean :)

That's good news for GT clients! I'm not sure on the technicalities of supervising an iva to understand why some IPs can continue to close cases while others have to keep them open...maybe something to do with trusts???

Sorry should have said my post was for Cazdaz as she is having problems with GT due to the VAT problem. I know eveyones IVA is different but IPs either close them for everyone like they did with mine or they don't!

It's great GT are closing cases. We are seeing quite a few coming through now. Such a relief for IPs and their clients who can finally move on! x

I think that they have been closing cases for quite a while now - they just seem to have an awful lot to get through which is understandable when you see the extent of their portfolio.

I know that some companies closing IVAs have backlogs but from what Cazdaz was saying on page 1 of this post subject, GT have said they are not closing until the VAT is resolved (unless I have mis interpreted something). This is inconsistent to how they treated my case. Has something happened over the last couple of months to make them stop closing cases again?

Does anybody know why payplan are not closing cases and then reclaiming VAT? I too have received the email explaining that it could take a further 3 months to issue cc! That will mean 7 months in total from making final payment! Surely that is breaching their agreement? I kept to mine!! Grrrr x

I don't know the details of Payplan's stance. I'm sure they would explain to you if you gave them a buzz. x

If you let us know which firm you are with, they may have a representative we can put you in touch with. Congratualtions on completing...must be a huge relief! x
