National Hunter is purely used for checking applications made and does not credit score, hold credit information, defaults, CCJ, IVA's, BR, or electoral role information.
It will however show what applications you have made, probably nothing more than what credit searches are shown at one of the 3 main CRAs, but it will pick up abnormalities between what you put on one application form for credit and another.
It's there to detect fraud more than anything else.

Presumably the records a bank may keep would only be seen by them and other members of their group, but wouldn't be shared with a completely unassociated lender?
Correct, not sure on groups though. e.g. I bank with Lloyds TSB and did so thoughout my IVA yet I had debts included in my IVA from Halifax. I grant that at the time I took out the IVA they were not one of the same, but now they are.
Now whether Lloyds have access to old delinquent accounts from Halifax, sold onto Max Recovery, and thus find out about my IVA I have no idea. I'm not mentioning it to them as I have their full current classic account and quite happy with them thoughout my IVA period and beyond.
