Hi guys (especially the wonderful Melanie Giles, who set me on my way to debt freedom).
I've been IVA free now since 2012, after initially entering into it in May 2010.
I have a query which hopefully someone can answer for me.
I've noticed on my credit report that some of my default dates are incorrect (in other words, they aren't entered as default on the date my IVA started).
Is this correct, and if not, am I able to correct these to ensure that by May 2016 all my defaults drop off my record?
I was under the impression that as soon as accounts were included in an IVA, these automatically default, and so surely all my defaulted accounts should be on the same date.
It's important as in theory by May next year, that'll be six years since the start of the IVA and as such they should all drop off my record.
Some of the defaults that were included in my IVA weren't updated on my credit report for at least another year (2011), and so that would mean they'd stay on my record until 2017.
Can someone advise please?

Also, to all those of you just setting out on what appears a long and daunting road to debt freedom, I say stick with it, this is a wonderful place for advice and support, and take it from someone who was in significant debt, there is light at the end of the tunnel for all of you.

Many thanks all.
Now debt free after F&F in July 2012.

Hi,

You need to send a copy of your completion letter to those creditors who have defaulted you since the date of initial IVA acceptance and tell them to remove those defaults.

Thanks Kallis. Great advice. Sorry I haven't been around lately - this place remains a fantastic one for support. The IVA route, which was so daunting at the time, was absolutely the right thing for me and five years down the line (can't believe it's been five years already), my life is totally perfect and back on track. Happy to stay around to advise and support others just starting the journey.

No I believe they should adjust the default dates to the date of the IVA so that your credit report is cleared 6 months from day IVA started. You might have to resend your CC to get them to update their records accordingly. Unfortunately this seems to be a common occurance.

It is a bit frustrating that after 5 long years, one still have to follow up creditors despite them receiving certificates completions. But then again, the hardest bit is over so. To all those is the process, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks Lesley for the links - especially the send one.

If you write to the credit agencies with a copy of your certificate and list of included companies they will do the contacting of creditors for you ... they did ours and it was just one or two stubborn creditors I contacted directly. Its worth doing it now with 6 months to go.
