Council Tax/Water etc...

Soon to be going bankrupt, and at the moment direct debits for things like BT/Gas/Electric/Car Insurance etc are being paid.

I pay for my Council Tax & Water through the Post Office with a payment card/book.

Obviously any arrears with my council tax/water will be cleared to the date we go bankrupt, but if I don't pay the council tax or water, will I get into trouble with the OR for paying my phone/gas/electric DD's, and ignoring the C.tax/water.

The council tax is not cheap, and i want to use the money to help fund the bankruptcy.

The OR is likely to turn a blind eye to this, but there was a recent post on water rates which suggested that this debt is not necessarily left behind under bankruptcy proceedings. And you should not really be using ongoing council tax arrears to fund your bankruptcy, although I accept that that money needs to be found from somewhere.

I believe the post you are referring to about water rates was regarding the fact that a water rate bill for a full year was cleared regardless of BR date, but council tax is still due from the date the BR is made.

I understand it's not the 'right' thing to do, but as I said I need to find the money from somewhere [:I]
