our boss lets us keep copper pipe offcuts and we pool them together to fund our christmas party

i took two if you can imagine a fertiliser bag
that type of size bags pretty full of off cuts to our local scrapyard and got £148 for them

you get more money for copper if you cut the fittings off and weigh them in seperatly

you also roughly get £12 for a similar bag of unstripped electric cables

if you get any plumbing work done at home insist that the plumber leaves the scrap he strips out with you

brass taps are work collecting too

hope this helps

That's why my hubby is collecting fuzzy and I agree about the scrap from the plumber. x

My hubby would agree, he hardly chucks anything away, we have bits of this and bits of that as you never know when you might need it!

His firm are fairly good, the other year we got all new worktops as the spec for a new housing development changed and they were told to skip the new worktops! what an absolute waste he asked if he could have a few lengths and they said yes as long as he wasn't going to sell them, which he didn't he eventually fitted them in my kitchen and made me a new breakfast bar! result!

That's a pity OT!

Used to be lots of freebies where I worked (College) as the spouse/partner could do a course free, then only the tuition fees were waived and you only paid the exam element, now nothing for partners.

Luckily we still have free training for the time being, training day on the 14th all day for me as we've just upgraded to Windows and Office 2010.

No freebies for me unless you count the odd pen and envelope I've used for my own personal use!

I'm very naughty as well and make personal phone calls on the firms phone!

I'm the same as Jan - only a pen or envelope for me I'm afraid! I also make any phone calls that I can during working hours!

I've not got the chance to make calls as always so many people about especially during term time. I wonder what my new role brings today which I start at 12:45!

My new rota is good though I only work one late evening and finish at 1pm on two days so I'm happy with one thing at least. x

I am an Electrician. DMB I am with you on this. I never used to be bothered weighing in scrap, i just let the pikeys take it. Till one day i had a big lump of copper about 10cm long and 4cm sq, it was kicking about in the garage for weeks, so i went and weighed it in £120 i got for it. Now when i rewire a house i get about £50 to £60 for all the scrap cable i remove, and that is unstripped as well, apparently pure copper is worth 3 times its dirty value. It is so valuable that at the electrical trade show a couple of weeks back there was a company there selling a shredding machine which took all the insulation off cables for about £1500 and they were selling like hot cakes.

We say up here in Yorkshire "Where theres muck theres brass" so never undermine anyone weighing in scrap metal which is theirs to dispose of. DMB Keep up the good work.

Regards..........Howard

Ooooo Howard, you sound just like me Dad! Im a Yorkshire lass [:D]

We just recently had a power cut over a large part of town for over a hour, around 10pm at night.
And you have guessed right it was thieves stealing materials from a electricity station point, which was so dangerous too, they were lucky they did not fry themselves!
Final IVA payment made in April 2013, never ever thought we could do it or get through it but we did! X
