We received our completion certificates this morning 'yay' you all say but I'm not feeling as I should be, after our f&f and my ppi i managed to pay nearly £5500 I paid slightly more than the agreed £5300 (give or take) out of all this my 5 creditors got less than £500 to 6 debts im feeling really deflated as I thought they would get a lot more than this...obviously they must of accepted them all but I'm just wondering why most companies would prefer an iva if they actually don't get much out of it....the only reason why we were pushed into an iva was that my council refused a small weekly payment from me which would be on going and refused to take it back from the bailiffs in my mind they would of got it all back in time rather than accepting the minimal amount and it really is a minimal amount, I always wanted to pay my debts in full so I think this is the reason why I feel this way.....another thing im now going to have to fight my council to erase the 14/15 council tax that remains from my current account as I paid it into my iva like many others, they have no clue and are sayin they have not received anything and it will never go back to 0 which to me means they are hoping I don't take much care in paying my tax and end up also paying extra off the old tax bill (I don't think soo) grrrrr

Well done on that! Do know how you feel though.

As regards the council - they have probably not yet received the notification but if they continue to be stubborn then see if your IP company can speak to them and put it right.

Yes, on lower debts, fees take a great chunk out. But, as you say, this is agreed by the creditors who often sell on debts for pennies anyway. For them it simply gets toxic debt off the books and makes the business appear better.

Thanks Kallis and foggy

A huge weight has been lifted but still feel abit hard done by haha I'm sure I'll feel happier in a few yrs and everything's off my credit file.

My councils always stubborn about money I rung this time last year and was told it was separate to my current tax and any money paid that was credit would not affect the debt, obviously not as I overpaid by about £2 and it came off that balance I've spoken to 2 people who told me that I just want to be able to go into credit to help future yrs which was my plan before my iva hopefully they will not take ages to sort it but I've gotta feeling ill still be trying to sort it this time nxt yr alongside aperture my council are very good at dragging their heels on things like this.

Foggy I appreciate they do sell debts on for pennies but tbh the only real debt was my old council tax from years ago everything else I took wiv me was up to date. Funny how companies don't mind taking a few pence but will badger u till the cows come home if your not in a debt management plan I find that weird but at least they can scrap our names off their books now 2 less people in debt to these companies haha

I agree it is somewhat perverse, Starry. If they are willing to sell the debt to a collector for a few pennies in the pound they should not be averse from doing similar with the actual debtor -- though, I imagine that would set an alarming precedent. And, of course, the collectors "bulk buy".

I know how you feel but you have to be proud of your achievement - an iva is not an easy option and you have come through it. You are now debt free and able to move forwards ... your creditors didn't get alot but you did ... a new start !
