Fingers crossed that it gets accepted Ginnyfizz - sounds more positive.

Meh no....they declined me. Methinks I need to wait until I get these defaults sorted out. Wait another six months. At least it hasn't hammered my Experian credit score at all.

Sorry to hear they declined you, you'd be better off waiting until all the negative data is removed from the CRA and then apply through your bank.

Searches should not hammer your credit score.

The only concern with searches is that other creditors can see you've been shopping around for credit elsewhere.

That could lead to them taking a decision based on that information.
We're willing to wipe the slate clean, give you a fresh start. All that we're asking in return is your cooperation.

Haven't tried Vanquis.

I have the total of three applications in six months, better not make any more for a while.

Another that may help - is a pre paid card - ok you pay a monthly charge ! - but it has potential to help improve you credit rating

Not all of the pre pay will help your credit rating - so you just need to check to have the right one!

That depends on what you think you are going to need to do in the future, wonderwoman. I don't have any intention of getting myself into the IVA situation ever again. However, I will need to obtain credit in order to finance a decent car, since my current one is going to fail its MOT next Feb for certain.

Believe it or not, my Experian credit score is actually fair rather than poor. It's just that I need to get the nasties that were actually part of the IVA removed from my credit file, before I apply for the car finance.

Even if you don't want to use credit for the foreseable future a good credit score can have benefits. Mortgages for example, mobile phone contracts, some job applications (apparently) and, possibly, the time you might need credit ( as opposed to just wanting it).
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

Hi wonderwoman - it is useful to have a healthy credit rating for mortgages and emergencies. I'm terrified of getting into the same pickle again but a small credit card paid off each month helps restore us to the mainstream financial market. It is totally down to you as an individual though xx

If you are not planning to get a mortgage/credit card etc - then leave it - time will help but so will paying all you utilities bills etc. A normal bank account with say £50 overdraft limit will all help.
