I have looked my friends credit files under Profile , the names and addresses on it are as it is given to the co-op, she has a maiden name linked to a married name. Ok she didn't elect to vote with her previous address...hardly a problem?

No cifax entry for fraud

Incontrovertible evidence from Experian the Id check used by the Coop is flawed?? They cliam to take ID security seriously???? But deny who you say you are even if its on a credit report or driving licence ??? Lunatics?

Lunatic is a bit strong! Has her husband dot any issues as if they are linked it could cause a problem.

If you read other posts you'll find that other banks also have strange criteria. At the end of the day it's down to them if they choose to let a person open an account.

Basic bank account was introduced after the FSA enforced it in 2001 to force banks to provide it.The FSA said everyone should have an account irrespective of how credit worthy they are.[right on] Banks were not willing to provide it till then as the service makes no money...period.

TFC, Banks realy do not like Basic bank account,so would NOT blinker an eyelid to refuse. I have an Alliance and Leicester basic account, and you can't even use it in the branch to pay in,have to use it in the P.O like a Prepaid card as if there was no branch. The Halifax card does not allow the use of paying into it over the counter. You have to use an envelope. Those are indirect discriminatory practices.

You can ALSO guess why the Co-op don't open Savings account to everyone....they aren't making money there either.Ironically, its a a Bank that sells on its ethnical standand. Even HSBC will allow you a savings account even if you are in an IVA but will close your current account if you are in an IVA? Strange polemics.

I wouldn't lost any sleep with the co-op.HSBC is offering 1.99 fix rate mortgages!! Beat that Co-op?

I wouldn't bank with HSBC if they were the last bank on earth! They are the nastiest, least ethical bank going and couldn't give a stuff about their customers!

Could it be that she was refused as having 6 basic banks accounts isnt normal practice??

The idea of a basic bank account was to enable anyone to have access to banking facilities. The co op may have decided that as she already has numerous accounts she doesnt need another one.

That's a good point PD and I could understand why any bank would take that stance!

I am new,If you know anything about Id checks then you must know that an ID check doesn't show how many accounts you have.I know because I used to work in an credit agency as a temp.It checks who you are and where you live.THATS IT! If your point is valid then it must be supported by the credit agency wjo supply the data. I doubt you understand the process? And you are FORUM EXPERT?

[:0]Would you care to point out what advice I have given incorrectly?

I merely pointed out that perhaps the co op had looked into the fact that the person in question had several basic banks accounts and see this as unusual practice.

Oh and a big hearty welcome to the forum,I already get the feeling you will become a valued poster.
