Hi Skippy -

Well - I think it can be said without fear of contradiction that you dont like Tesco!!

But I remain a Tesco fan. I think their rapid expansion is because they are giving people what they want - good prices, long opening hours, and a great range of stuff. And although Tescos are popping up everywhere there is always a Sainsburys / Asda / Morrisons / Somerfield nearby to provide healthy competition. Not forgetting the amazing Aldi and Lidl who I only recently discovered!!!

I do agree that the demise of the corner shop is very sad. I must say I think our local greengrocer provides better quality fruit and veg AND cheaper - than any of the big supermarkets. My particular moan is tomatoes - the supermarket ones just dont taste of anything at all whereas the greengrocer stocks locally grown ones (traditionally grown) which actually taste of tomato!!! Same with strawberries.

Cant argue with your car / insurance problems - they do sound pretty grim!!!

If I am still posting at Christmas I will send Andy a box of Tesco Finest Chocolates to send on to you!!!

HI Gordon
Quote "Then again, I suppose it was just his way of trying to make sure my VA was agreed by the creditors so to achieve a good level of returns based on the high level of debt that there was..."
Here lies the problem with many IVAs,are the IP providers doing you a favour by reducing down your expenditure to get the disposible income up and your IVA through ? In retrospect I think not and will ultimately cause most IVAs to fail or be varied.

That's exactly what happened with mine! My bonus was taken at 100% and expenditure reduced so that disp income would be enough to make it viable. The clothing amount of £20 was the max they said would be allowed.
The daft thing was though, I have £5 allowance for a mobile I never use but no allowance at all for my 2 cats!

Its a shame not to have a small cat allowance. Cats can be so unpredictable - some will eat anything and some are ultra fussy. I realise that pets are not essential but they are important. I think that most people would go without themselves rather than see their pet go hungry!!! But I guess we will never see the day when "Pet Food" is included in an I+E calculation.

I had not realised that Melanie - that is good to know. I must admit though I would have felt rather cheeky asking for a Pet Allowance!!!

I hadn't realised just how much they cost till I did the i&e. Inc. vet fees they cost approx £30 a month!
They are as much a part of the family as I am. I am still at home and my parents help out but the boys are mine and my responsibility.
If a pet is taken on during an iva then the expense should be absorbed within the original budget. But if you already have them, then they are a legitimate expense which should be inc. They shouldn't have to suffer for our mistakes.
In my case, I think it was ruled out simply to get the proposal through.

Hi

Can I just back Melanies statement up as in my IVA I&E I had pet insurance and pet food as an aditional allowance, i dont feed them the most expensive but I do have 4 pets, in BR I was only allowed £20 in total.
I think Melanie allowed me a very realistic I&E and nothing was omitted to try and make it look more favourable to the creditors. I have compared my IVA and my BR I&E's and they total more or less the same the BR coming in £20 greater.
However the BR expenditure looks very different as certain things are not allowed e.g. life/pet insurance, contigency etc but was allowed holiday haircuts etc. My clothing allowance is £60(£10 more than my IVA) for 2 people however my child benefit and tax credits are not included in my income in BR so if you have children you must understand that the OR will consider this to be allocated to the needs of the Kids.

Who are they to decide what you should and should not spend? Insolvency practitioners should not be setting benchmarks for allowable expeniture, but should record and represent what you actually do spend - within reason of course. Are you saying that you have disclosed false figures to your creditors?

1. R1chard - You have some assertive views (nothing wrong with that!!) but I note that you have said that you are in an IVA yourself. Would you be kind enough to post what caused you to have to consider and enter an IVA? (Sorry if you have already done that and I have missed it!!!!)

i enterted into an iva as i broke up with my ex, and have gone from paying half a mortgage and bills to paying full rent and full bills.

ive a son, whos 4, 5 in november. i want to be able to buy him all the good stuff when hes older, hence ive gone on it now and not later.

im not blaming anyone - my own fault.. running up silly debts same as most others. living beyond my means,.

all i was saying is,. im very thankful for having my debts halved and now being able to relax and not worry about it.

i wasnt judging anyone, all i was doing was giving my point of view, and still i think we are all very lucky to off been accepted on an iva, and i feel we dont have a right to moan about allowed expendatures.

we are lucky we live in our kind of world, and we aint kneecapped or have everything we own taken and forced onto the streets to pay back what we owe.

i dont see how we can have a right to demand more money for our children, as long as they are fed and warm, new clothes and that are superficial, and moaning about it is more of a pride thing then a neccasarty.

again I AM NOT JUDGING ANYONE.. Mearly giving a point of view..
lots of payments to go.

New clothes for children are a necssity.
I have 1 son whos always ripping the knees out of his school trousers and another who is special needs and eats his sleeves.
Adults are luckier, my clothes last for years but children grow.

clothes do not have to be "new".. that is my point. ebay does bags of clothes for the same price as one item in a shop.
lots of payments to go.
