school uniforms dont cost that much, ive fully kitted out my child for £40.00 all from tesco.

they dont need kitting out each month.
lots of payments to go.

Jane, like I said in my previous post we are all in debt for various reasons and no-one has the right to judge you. You have done what you thought was best for your children, and certainly no-one can criticise you for having them. I don't have children but my friends do and I have a good idea of how much they cost! I can also remember how quickly I grew, and I was always tall for my age so I was in adult clothes long before my friends - I must have cost my poor mum and dad a fortune!

I admit my debts are from comfort spending, living beyond my means and then robbing Peter to pay Paul. I have nothing to show for my debts, and I'm certainly not proud of being bankrupt but like you I did what I had to do and if anyone wants to judge me for that then that's their problem.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

-I just wanted to say in Kerri's case, she wasnt saying that you shouldnt or cant enjoy the good things in life and they do vary from person to person depending on what you have or have not been exposed to.

What she meant was life is so much more important than money, its sure doesnt feel like it in this day and age but every single one of us here are priceless.

No amount of money can replace a loved one. Thats whats important and instead of feeling bad cos you cant have a CD or a new car, treasure the lives in your life, whatever crap you might be going through.

yes we may have borrowed money we cant pay back but how easy was it to get it in the first place?? They took a chance on giving us the money, they lost. I am not saying you shouldnt want to pay as much as possible back, I am saying it shouldnt be repaid at all costs. Our children shouldnt pay for our mistakes but they do, right? The creditors dont give us loans to help us out they do it to make money, soemtimes it might back fire. Its not a case of oops I made a mistake, its Oh my god, what the hell an I going to do.

Can I just ask a couple of things -

1. R1chard - You have some assertive views (nothing wrong with that!!) but I note that you have said that you are in an IVA yourself. Would you be kind enough to post what caused you to have to consider and enter an IVA? (Sorry if you have already done that and I have missed it!!!!)

2. Skippy - Sorry - but Tescos are brilliant. Big choice / cheap prices / Tesco Clubcard / 24 hour opening for people worrying about IVAs!!! Why do you hate them so???

And may I just add a comment regarding bereavement. I know that if I passed away tomorrow I would want my relatives and friends to make the most of life and - especially - to enjoy a few drinks in my name!!! Of course a loved ones death is devastating BUT - I do believe that most of our family who pass away would prefer us to make the most of the time we have left ourselves!!

Sorry if this is a bit controversial but I do believe it.

I do like Asda as well - they do really cheap bread!! But I stick mainly with Tescos as their Clubcard means you get vouchers and coupons every 3 months which can be worth quite a bit.

Hi
An interesting thread
A few points

Not all people entering into an IVA or Bankruptcy do so because of irresponsible spending. Many factors can affect the persons finances including sickness, redundancy and business problems. We must not judge anyone on this forum because we never know the full facts.
The debate on allowances will always be ongoing as no one persons situation is the same as the next.I think it is upto the person who,s IVA it is to be firm and honest with themselves and their IP as to the figures that are proposed.Do not be dictated to,there are no maximums and minimums set in stone.

Optimist, I've got a quite few reasons for hating Tescos:

1. I hate the fact that they are putting the corner shops out of business. Everywhere you go there is a Tesco Express where there used to be a independent corner shop and they just seem to want world domination!
2. I think a lot of the food is poor quality.
3. The staff in the Tesco near me are rude and I get fed up with them shouting across to each other when they are serving me.
4. I put their dodgy petrol in my car and it cost me £500 for new exhaust sensors.
5. I had their insurance and when I wrote my car off I had to argue with them for ages to get them to even assess it as they said they didn't know where it was, even though it was parked outside my house.
6. Their stupid finance department has just issued a default notice against me even though I am bankrupt and when I phoned to dispute it they wouldn't accept that I couldn't make a payment and kept telling me to do so, and they haven't had the decency to reply to my srongly worded letter of complaint!

Sorry, I bet you wish you'd never asked! Luckily when we move our local supermarket will be Sainsburys, who also do very nice clothes!

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.
