I know when you see this you will all give a big scream!

No doubt if I was around things would be thrown at me for even daring to suggest this! LOL

When you calm down just think this could be a nice way to have a good time by trying to save a little each week so we can all look forward to enjoying a good festive time!

I thought we could challenge ourselves to making a small commitment to the various Saving schemes around ie Asda Christmas Card and the Sainsbury's saving cards. Not forgetting Nectar and Tesco Cards.

Any other ideas of savings would be a good idea.

Would be interested in agreeing to a small savings challenge in order to help everyone have a nice Christmas and New Year!

I am sure a couple of hundred pounds will not upset our creditors to much!

What do people think?

It's a good idea to have a savings target Ray, and so long as the money is being saved out of your existing IVA allowances no one is going to tellyou that this can't be done.

Perhaps iva.co.uk ought to start a Christmas club!!!

Hi Melanie

I agree it has to be done out of the allowances for IVA and I think it should not be more than say £10.00 per week.

Bit hesitate to start a Xmas Club savings scheme due to the difficulties that a company had last year and resulted in misery for a lot of people!

What I thought was if people wanted was a form of challenge to see how much they wanted to save and to use this forum as a means of financial discipline so that they would have a good Christmas and New Year!

For instance to cover food and drink this Christmas and New Year I am setting a target of £200.00 and another £300.00 for presents.

Will have to find the £300.00 out of my income but presently I have about £40.00 on my Nectar card for Sainsbury's and £25 of Sainsbury Savings stamps!

If anyone wants to join me then just follow this thread!

I have £45 in tesco club card vouchers here which will buy all the kids stocking fillers/clothes etc for christmas. My Sainsburys rewards points is around £20 at the moment and I generally use this to buy my veg and turkey for christmas day.

I have also got about £10 Boots advantage points which will probably go towards someones present.

Its about now that every time I do my weekly shop, I buy in a jar or box of pickle or a selection pack or something usually spending no more than a couple of £'s. This week, I bought a couple of bottles of soft drinks and they all get stored away in a box in the garage so no temptation!! Obviously I check the sell by date!! ;) At least this way, when I do a proper christmas food shop I usually have very little to buy, usually the dairy things like the cheese etc and biscuits.

At the end of the month just before hubby gets paid I usually empty the account of whatever is left (dependant on how much of a stooge I have been) which goes towards buying the presents.

For family, my children make the christmas cards and some of the presents gets wrapped in homemade wrapping paper. Every little penny saved helps!!!! :D :D

If you want to 'earn' some presents try www.ipoints.co.uk. There's lots of offers and free ipoints for surveys etc. You do get a bit of junk mail but you can soon delete it.
I've had a few books etc. as rewards and hopefully I'll have enough points by xmas to get a present or 2! This summer they had a scratchcard giveaway and I won 2 pairs of sunglasses worth £150 each and an apple ipod nano. 3 presents sorted!!!

I've got £70 in Sainsburys savings stamps - I never did start with Asda as we're moving nearer to Sainsburys so I didn't think it was worth it. I've only got about £2.50 in Nectar points, but every little helps!

I can't believe that Christmas is only 3 months away!

Every time I've gone into Sainsburys I've put any pound coins from my change and any I already had in my purse into the stamp machine. I don't miss them (too much!) and at least you can use them any time, even if the card isn't full.

If anyone collects 1ps, 2ps and 5ps there are now machines in most supermarkets which will automatically change them up for you which is so much easier than bagging them up and taking them to the bank. You could be suprised by how much a years worth of coppers can turn into.

Hi
You would not be able to list it seperately on your expenditure form but there is nothing to stop you contributing to it from you house keeping or contingency fund.

Just started paying towards IVA and now dreading this Xmas.

Speaking of which, I know it's not Xmas yet but quite often in Sainsburys they do turkey joints @ 2.99 each but can buy 2 for £5.00. I freeze one and get 3 days out them. I've started doing this now especially if you are on a tight budget but still want to eat healthy.

I dread going shopping now as I have to make sure I have enough cash or on card to cover payments - no more CCs!!
