We do the same Luke. Just buy for the kids and all chip in with the food. I live Xmas hubby hates it and last year I couldn't go to my parents due to having an op and having my foot in plaster. Intend to make up for it this year though!!

We have my parents to stay over Christmas and New Year and they bung towards the food. We don't go overboard with that - used to buy loads that got thrown away, now we don't.

We put up a tree and outside lights. I write the cards (nobody would have any if it was left to hubby)but I'm really not fussed about it anymore. As soon as my parents are no longer with us and the IVA is finished we will go abroad for Christmas.

My girlfriend and I have talked about doing Xmas abroad in the future as lots of people recommend it. Just a few obstacles though:

1. My IVA and her DMP (So will have to wait 3 years at least)

2. Our jobs. I work Security and she works Retail so we are not allowed holidays Late Nov to Mid-Jan [:(] (So job changes needed too lol)

I must admit I sometimes still get that magical feeling over Xmas lol.

My fave thing about it now is the German Market that comes to Leeds in mid November. Love the Bierkeller and the HUGE German beers Mmm. Shame it is so popular that you can queue for an hour to get in! Saving now so I can afford to make 2 visits and have beer and bratwurst!

Myself and daughter love the German market in Birmingham and always have a day out Christmas shopping and have lunch in a local pub. I don't the beer but do have the mulled wine!!

You'd love Prague then Jan.

Every xmas they have the markets in the streets and Svarak (mulled wine). Definitely a nice place to be near xmas with all the architecture etc, especially when it snows :).

Luke, come get some Czech beer (pilsner urquell). FAR nicer than any german stuff (and far cheaper).. Not that i'm biased of course.

Doh, i had to edit cos the forum doesn't like czech letters :)

Each to his own Ronald - it's the only way I will drink red wine.
