Credit items including the IVA flag remain on your credit file for the 6 years.

Creditscoring systems will auto decline during an IVA and then risk rate after completion.

You could be able to secure credit again in year 5/6 depending on the overall risk ie age, homeowner, married, income etc etc

No matter when you complete the IVA it still remains on the file for the 6 years and is detremental to most scorecards.

When you are looking at credit again (following the IVA) be very careful about who you apply to and why.

For example applying to book clubs or catalogues etc will not help build your credit profile - nearly all scorecards ignore comms / catalogue / credit under £200.

Having credit for the sake of credit wont help ie: if you have a credit card but do not use it this reported as is the outstanding balance each month.

I am going to develop a generic scorecard for people to use - simply load details in and it will give you hints and tips as to what to look out for when rebuilding credit.

I will post the link when its done (should be next month)

Why would you want credit ?
Surely having been through the insolvency process that the last thing that you would want to do is to look at credit again.
Personally I dont want to have to use credit, in any form , again. I will save for what I need.
I can see that you may wish to build up your rating to get a mortgage, but being too old to consider a mortgage its not for me.

Eh ?
I am maybe being very dense here but how is sky tv credit .. they provide a service -- your TV programs - you watch and pay each month .
Is that any different from your telephone or gas or electric ?

Hi mish I think that john has seen the post about not being able to get a sky contract or mobile phone contract whilst in an iva, as they do credit checks.

Just to add i do agree that these arent exactly credit but for some reason I have heard of people getting refused due to credit checks but John it just means they may want three or six months upfront, there is no harm ringing and asking.

I know people without an iva who have had trouble I dont quite understand as my virgin media is always a month in advance, I suppose some could go mad with the pay per view ,that may be why but doesnt seem the same as a contract phone where you really could run up a bill.

I dont think it matters if you had it before as they know that you pay, we still have virgin and I up and downgrade as i feel like it and hubby still has his phone contract and has had that upgraded since the iva, it must be just the neww applications that they check.
