Thanks Skippy.

Its right, unless you have the underground next to your home, more often than not it is totally impractical and unreasonable.

These rising fuel prices are of real concern to all those in debt. I really feel for people in IVAs over the next few months. Hopefully the IVA companies will be understanding toward people in whats going to be a difficult period.

I live in a smallish market town and public transport isn't an option here, we do have a bus station but it's a bit hit and miss (apparently) as to whether the bus arrives/departs. My daughter has often been caught out when travelling to her boyfriends and the taxi of Mum has to appear.

Fuel charges are set to rocket and it's something I'm dreading but we'll have no choice but to buy it x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Why should we have these 'guidelines'

Each part of the country has different prices for petrol, food etc.

As long as you can prove what you are paying out with receipts, then you should be able to claim back what you pay out.

Averages shouldn't come into it.

I would like to know from CCCS why they consider themselves qualified to state what is an acceptable range of expenditure.

The official explanation is that they gather this data from all of their clients who submit details of their household budgets, but why should this data be representative or reliable? If anything, its bound to be skewed to the bottom end of expenditure because , by definition, it is prepared from data submitted by households who are suffering financial difficulty.

Then there's the question of how you deal with the data, statistically. Do you average, calculate median points or upper and lower quartiles, and what about regional variations?

The CCCS guidelines are critical to the IVA Protocol yet everyone has to accept that the expenditure guidelines are correct, without corroberation. I would like to see their methodology for producing this information reviewed by a completely independent third party such as an academic or a government department, if it is going to be given so much credence, and an obligation placed upon CCCS to produce the data annually.

The other problem is that many people who are currently in an IVA will rob peter to pay paul within their allowances to ensure that an IVA does not fail.

Paul

ps fully agree about an independant agency reviewing and publishing the findings.
Discharged today the 8th feb 2012. View is much brighter now.

Hi Mel,

I'll try and put my tuppenyworth in a bit more!I think most IP's would agree. It would be useful to get CCCS'response to this but I suspect that they would be resistant to outside scrutiny.

Hopefully they will respond next week.

Hello Andy,

I've never really left! I read the board daily but I just haven't had the time to properly contribute but I'll try to answer any technical questions, if it doesn't seem as though Mel is around.

The routine stuff I'll leave to the experts like Kallis and Skippy who really know their onions.

I've followed your career change, with interest as well and hope that it's going well for you.

And hopefully this post will bump this thread up the list because I really would like to get CCCS's response to my point!!

All the best
