Well, at last! At least we know who they are and what they stand for.
I used them for free bankruptcy advice. I do wonder though will the IVA service be free? Hmmmm....

CCCS enters IVA market
24th April 2007

Chartable organisation the Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) has established its own Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA) operation in recent days, it has been revealed.

CCCSVA, as the new operation is to be known, is now able to offer its debt advice services to those people whose situation makes them most suitable for an IVA in light of their particular debt management concerns.

A percentage of the thousands of people who approach the CCCS for advice on becoming debt free could benefit from an IVA and what the charity is convinced will be a "compassionate" debt advice service.

"CCCSVA is based in Leeds, yards away from the headquarters of the Foundation for Credit Counselling. As its staff builds up it will help an increasing number of people whom IVAs can help," a statement from the organisation explained.

A report from the CCCS last month suggested that the burden of Britain's debt problems looks likely to be increasingly shifted to older generations.

I dont think they are free, but they will be 'cheaper' than the norm as they dont make a 'profit' - I think they will do them at cost basis. They will claim charges from the creditors, I dont think they will have upfront charges.

I forsee their biggest problem will be popularity, so will probably be slower to prepare and present - but we'll have to see how it works out for them.

Maybe its also worth pointing out, if you google cccs as a search term, there is a sponsored link site that always comes up near the top of the list called c-c-c-s.com - this is not the cccs at all, so do not make that mistake!

A friend of mine has confessed to being in debt and her hubby does not know, I needed it for her as she does not have the internet, I was really shocked as she always seems to be well dressed, sorted and is very intelligent. Oh well you never know, this halo effect thing I learned in psychology really does exist.

This would be a fantastic thing if they do free IVA's but how would they do this? The staff doing the proposal would need to be paid, right???

CCCS is a charity, so you won't pay a penny for any of our services.

This is what is says on the website!! I was going to use them but the dept for IVA's wasnt set up at that time and i couldnt wait, they still dealt with them but they used another company,

Hi
Just remember that in a "free" or low fee IVA you will still pay the same each month,it will mean, however, that your creditors will get a higher dividend.
This will,I feel, make any proposal for an IVA from CCCS very attractive to creditors.

I will let everyone know how my friend gets on,(if she ever stops crying) she has several options but will take advice from them as I dont really know that much. I think they have enough equity in the property so may be able to pay it all off without IVA, she has a twenty three year old very disabled daughter in a wheel chair, she gets top DLA and a mobility car, does anyone know if motability cars are affected in IVA's. Gee I hope she never reads this. I have to say I am soo glad I found this site, this lady is in bits and I really am concerned for her, she is ten years older than me and was a massive help when my sons where diagnosed, its good to be able to help her but I would'nt be able to offer her advice if it wasnt for you good people and all the info I have from you. Well I can still be a shoulder to cry on anyway. And if cccs send her to synergi, I will have to come clean about my own problems, I guess.

Thanks everyone

IVAs are never "free" - they are funded by the creditors by virtue of them accepting less from the total contributions put into the IVA by the debtor. But if the creditors gained even a fraction more from this total pot they will be "funding" a lower cost IVA so I can see it being an attractive proposition. I would imagine the companies that are most worried by this are the ones that are listed on the Stock Market (e.g. Debt Free Direct) but non PLCs like Payplan will also have to justify/lower their charges more if CCCS make a "big play" of a lower fees IVA.
